GSG by 13:30pm but GStick reading not updated. G from GF on decs. 11mm of rain overnight. Stalls Stands Side. === Pre Race === Fahey peice from the SL = "Mister Zoff and Novinophobia both make their debut in the Maiden Stakes. The former is probably going to end up running over a mile at some stage this season but is ready to make his debut. Novinophobia is quite a nice horse. We do like him and he’ll win races but might just need the experience on Saturday". Jk Hamilton rides Novinophobia. On yearling pictures MZ looking another strongly built one by new sire Zoffany. The Fahey quote about 8f making him sound like a solid one but 6f a starting point. Novinophobia expensive at 90k and his yearling picture looks poor compared to the price. Smaller one with length and up behind. Neck a touch week and perhaps a bit too much length. Will need to have developed well from that presentation to make 90k look even an ok price and to make a competitive debut here. Breeze Video for Worlds His Oyster not as exciting as £110k sounds. Medium size and just above average build. Not a really strong Pivotal. A bit of body length and more range than a straight sprinter. Shows a faster action in the breeze but not fully controlled and hanging right early and left in the last 1f after a lead change. Using his range to the end. Middling scope and a positive for finishing the breeze off despite learning as he went in soime ways. === Post Race === [June 25th] Stalls stands side to centre spread. Stiff pace with Miniaturist join by the too free running Flying Pursuit (pulling fwd from wide draw) to form a leading pair, pulling the field along well strerched. Field racing off the stands rail. That pair joined by the smaller looking Fast And Furious pulling forward after 2f+ then by the smoother moving Sandahl by Halfway. Stiff pace setting the race up to allow some Closing on the leading 4 as the Halfway to Final positions show. But, not so fast as to see the front of the race 'collapse' and a Deep Closer win. Leading pair of Minituarist (-0.5) & FP (-1.5f) dropping out of Leading line at different times allowing FAF & Sandahl to move forward to contest to win. Whole field drifting left in last 2f. First two home stalling and fading later one. The mix of ability, readiness and how under pressure the horses were to try to chase the pace meant the only horses Closing (going forward relative to the average) in the last 1f+ wereTasleet (another Hanagan ridden for the Boos not put into a debut run) and Prince Hellvellyn after a slow start. Those too far back at halfway to get to the first 2 home in the last 0.5f. Would have been interesting whether a 75+ one at 3L+ back at halfway could have caught them. [June 25th] Prince Helvellyn a notably slow start and last a bit adrift of the field after 1f. Seemed to make a comfortable job of getting back into the last pair with Tasleet when asked. PH travelling comfortably to 2f out and a solif forward effort to get to 4th. Stalling in the last 0.5f. PH a strongly built medium with some range in front. Seemed a solid promise debut given an Ellison prep and PH's path through the race. Should be fine for 75+. A niggle that the leading pair home are just 70s horses and the form not that strong (track devt of that). Leading pair will presumably get 78+ for nurseries? Tasleet a bit green but made an ok start and could have sat 2R, say. But, typically for a Hanagan debut he allowed Tasleet to drop to the rear with not encouragement nor assistance offered to the horse. Tasleet looking a bit green and moving a bit oddly in front when in rear. Level with PH at 2f out but going less well and already under pressure. Tasleet losing 2L+ to PH into the 5th 1f then making some of that back staying on late. Showing a notably knee action doing it. Medium, less strong than PH and not that well made. Presume a 7f STO and perhaps need a lesser Northern Open Maiden to convert (if he can)? [June 29th] Novinophobia (the fear of running out of wine, how we all laughed) a short one, deeper front with some length. Given one of those rides which mst confuse horses. Starting off looking enthusiastic and running a bit too free in 2R. Head down style. Geting hauled back for that. Then getting outpaced at Halfway and the Whip used on on him before 1f out (as if he turned from enthusiast to shirker). What do you want? Stop or Go? Fading a bit before would expect for freeness and adding in hanging left and moving a bit wakwardly in front (some KA). Not a lot of promise overall and up to 7f STO presumably because of how he get left behind by the leaders at halfway as they upped the pace. Better than 60s? [June 30th] Fast And Furious still looking a smaller one on review. But must move well and have some zip above his size. Smaller than Flying Pursuit for eg and intersting to see how FAF compares in size to Avenue Of Stars 3TO at HTON. The collateral for between FAF/AOS via Flying Pursuit needs some thought given the different going, Paces, etc. FAF breaking well and professional and pulling forward to join the leading line before halfway. Travelling fine to 2f out but just an ok effort and fading back int he last 0.5f. Will he drop in and settle at HTON or go too fast downhill? Will he stay 6f there assisted by settling? GGS going at HTON and an uphill finish blunt his 'fast traveller' style? Size still feeling a negative. |
