GGF ay08:15am as on Decs. Watering on Sunday but no Details. GStick 8.0 Centre & Far Side, 8.2 (faster) on Stands Side. Stalls Centre. === Pre Race === Black Beach sold for £220,000 at the 'London Sale' the evening before the race. === Post Race === Immediate post race thoughts. Field ran in 2 groups either side of the track midpoint line until merging past Halfway. . Hannon pair of Eltezam sweating notably AP and too fired up? & Age Of Empire who was hauled back to 2R, pressing on leading the far side group. No surprise to see the MaJo pair of Ode To Evening & Beaverbrook leading the stands side group. A regular feature over the years has been MaJo horses running too free at this meeting and underperforming. But (check), Pace not looking overly strong here and some pulling behind (including very visibly First Selection). Winner and second seeming to come from 2R. Buratino looking physically improved and has developed well. Taller now and has strengthened up well without looking a strong bull sprinter of some of the field (War Dept. very very strong). But, Buratino also rangy and a very straight and correct mover. That movement showing up well as he finished the race off well as he had at EPSM where he also looked improved, won a bit comfortably and put up the best performance by a 2yo so far. Until he topped it here. Round Two a poor favourite on size grounds, looking 'just a 2yo' in this group. Also on his 'Marble Hill' form over 5f where he laboured home, showed less than Washington DC overall who came from further back and showed a better forward effort. WDC relegated to the Windsor Castle by AOB. Check if any excuse. Air Force Blue read like a 'Type 1' Coolmore/AOB runner in this race and seemed to stand that up fine but beaten by a better horse on the day. Type 1s being the HTNavigator & Poer types who are really high class milers and winning over 6f at 2yo aids the Sire Sales Blurb. Type 2s are the 5f 'only 2yos' type and lack physical presence and may never win again. AFB looking more the long term prospect. Check hampering as an excuse for War Dept. Beaverbrook a good run and his SP seemed to have more to do with his '2nd String' colours since he comes from one the KEY races of the season which also had a green Eltezam in it. Check where Sixth Sense fits into the MaJo group on quality compared to the 4th/5th here. == Post VRev === First point to not is the usable pace with the field packed into 5L at Halfway.1st 2 home came from 3R but only 2-3L back at Halfway. Buratino very confidently ridden by Buick (rode at EPSM) and making up ground to Leading Line witht he jk quiet and able to delay the request for the final effort towards 1f out. Jk Moore having to ask Air Force Blue just inside 2f out to make his full effort to move forward and get to the lead (while Buratino still going at hi own pace). Read the result as spreading the field out by ability for the most part. Valid excuses required for being further behind than expected (WDept?, for eg). Perhaps mark up 3rd/4th for efforts off being in the Leading Line. Age Of Empire lacks size in the group but showed his best at YORK when allowed to get into his rhythm and keep rolling. Prominent then haukled back here and being asked to switch right when making the final effort. Clearly lacks the power of those in front but can show better if allowed to dominate at his rhythm. AOE leading the far side Group and ahead of Eltezam (say 3rd overall) after 1f but back to 9th about 3L back and in the middle of the pack by Halfway. |
