F in early am as on Decs. GStick 10.6 on Monday and no rain since. CoC quote = "Due to a false rail which is in position around the bottom bend to the 3 furlong marker, 21 yds need to added to race distances that travel around the bottom bend". As usual the CoC fails to acknowledge that this sort of Rail out adds some distance to every race. === Post Race === The sort of race with a likely 'Who will do it?' Profile but, as it turned out, hard to find the winner, and favourite murderer. Angie's Girl a smaller medium one and a bit light framed and sub 75. Vulnerable to anything a bit bigger. AG a touch too fizzy here and wide drawn and poor value as an odds-on favourite. The sort of set-up where you have to back something(s) else. Part of the short SP for AG the lack of strong apparent opposition. The race has produced few subsequent winners in the last 3 years and a lot of fillies who ran in it and showed some 'form' got over-rated. This field thin quality on Profile. Also, the GDWD 2nd place being over-valued. AG having to extend some effort to get prominent but not enough to explain the poor run and having tracked David's Beauty (going a bit too hard in the lead) AG then unable even to raise the effort to get past DB. Stop the (near head-on) shot of the race towards the last 1f and, without knowing the colours, you would be unable to pick out AG on physical presence. Dutch Heiress the obvious possible 'better' one and a bit bigger in this field. But, looking even more green and hesitant than on debut. Prescott STOs for a competitive 'First Batch' 2yo should be be better than this and they have been fine so far before in 2015. This run by DH so bad inclined to think the horse not handling the ground. Trainer Sylvester Kirk once was a Hannon assistant and still is a son-in-law to senior. His training career has never taken off and in recent seasons the record with 2yos has dwindled. To the point in 2013 where he had a single win. Kirk never had an 'easy' MO to grasp and by the rock-bottom point it looked like the trainer had no idea how his 2yos were going to perform. Making it hard for anyone else to model anything. He had always got odd FTO wins, often with better ones, and some evidence of targetted support FTO. Debuts wins disappeared in 2011-13. 2014 was better year but the uncertainty over how his 2yos would run was still there. He had two FTO wins but at 25/1 & 33/1. One of that pair is currently rated OR100+ as a 3yo to indicate the type of quality he may need to get a FTO win. Which leads to the question of how good is Calypso Choir? SHe didn't stand out for size and a similar type to AG in PRev. Clearly has a bit more zip than her size suggests but hard to believe she is out of the OR70s in reality. Found a soft race her and probably has limited scope. Kirk could not wina second race with either of his FTO winners in 2014. CC needing to find a winnable Nursery on looks rather than being a 'Speed Cop' winning the St Hughs' for owner breeder Smith. [July 15th] Mrs Bojangles had an WTRB made saying she was 'struck into' (cut on her legs from her own or another horses hoof/shoe). Hard to see where that happened watching the Video. Looking small and, like many on the Hard (when did that going description get dropped?) going, not stretching out much. But, she may well not anyway. MrsB seeming to be plain outpaced at a couple of point then staying on from well back to a volunteer 4th past faders. Never in the race. |
