GFG in early am as on Decs. Stalls centre. === Pre Race === Hannon jks = Dobbs (OOTD), A3 Hardie (MM), Crowley (PP). Godolphin 1st Colours Flyweight ridden by A5 Shoemark. Looking at his record he has ridden for a wide variety of trainers over the last 1 month. 1 ride for Suroor & none for Gosden. What's the link to get this ride? Sales Price for Flyweight rely too much on 'pedigree'? Smaller first foal of dam has won at Listed level in France but not sure what that amounts to. Hard to see it makes 100ks worth. More 'Pedigree Chasing' and one step behind from Godolphin? In 215 the author notes Gosden had not received the filly when he spoke to him (April?). Noting the pre-training yard said she "looked like a 2yo". Is that more BRD code for 'smaller to small'? === Post Race === Slowish time and Slower looking pace with the field racing in a arrowhead on the Cent-Stds strip. Race has produced a smaller (2-4) number of subsequent Open Maiden winners in the last 3 seasons. The majority finishing in the first 4-5 places and all in the first half of the field. Tends not to be a solid field beynd the obviously competitive 2yos (who thus make the front places int he race 'somehow' normally given the range of abilities on show). Despite the pace there looked to be enough pressure in the last 2f+ to mostly grade the fillies by ability. Which poses a couple of questions. Vicennalia the first strong debut of the season for Appleby and most before have been visibly unready mentally and/or physically. Vicennalia able to get prominent but looking a bit gawky and green and driven along before 2f out as the pressure upped. But, rather than fading away ground on and winning with some comfort in the end. That indicating a 'better' one to some level? 2014 comparison would not raise hopes. His first 3 x debut wins then were May 30th, June 28th & July 18th (2 of 3 at 7f). 2 of those 3 tried were fillies who tried Group races afterwards and always unplaced. The colt placed in Novice events afterwards. But no later win from any of the 3. The other question is the growing 'gut feeling' about Hannon having an 'ok' season to date but some parts of it looking less than usual or 'right'. Stable has had 1 win and 3 x places int he equivalent races 2012-14. The majority of the runners they have run in the race have won. 3 x reps here and none even finishing prominently. Check quality of the 3. If sub-72 types then does Hannon not have 'anything' worthwhile ready for this race? |
