SUMMARY
GGF early AM as on Decs. Watering as 2mm of Friday & 3-5mm on Sunday.

CoC does not mention Rails so presume Innermost Line.

=============

Average to Slower Pace with Black Magic able to control the Race in the Lead on the Rail. Calpurnia running free and pulling forward to join BM after 1.5f and briefly head him by making an early effort before 2f out. Jk on BM unfazed and waited to make his effort in the HS. Tawakkol looking a bit boaty and lacking pace in a fast 5f on debut. Same problem here and got barged out to race widest from the rail as Calpurnia pulled into the leading line before 2f gone. After that Tawakkol never looking balanced and rolling around again and Dropping into a Lo3 for last on the bend. Taking a very long time to make progress in the HS racing centre and again looking a non-5f galloper staying on. Took until-0.5f to finally get past the smaller & less powerful, but more zippy, Calpurnia. BM running the short way around the bend, balanced and well clear by the 1f pole despite looking a bit green & not looking anything 'different'.

=== Post VRev ===

Last race on the Card (further drying?) a 5f Handicap won in 64.14secs by a 5yo off OR70 carrying 7lbs more than this winner. Which makes this look a Slow Time given what was possible & downgraded Pace for Zero to -1.

Look back at Fahey's record with 5f debut at the course and he had two runners int he equivalent event in 2002 who were 6th/7th both at 14/1. He had a solitary 2yo win that year and did not seem to know how to train 2yos. His debuts here since 2010 seem to split into 2 types with a record of 3 x FTO wins from 10 runs. But, only one of the 7 beaten on debut here won as 2yos, and that a barely 70 win for a small one. The 3 x Debut winners include two who tried Conds or Group level without success. The other was Supersprint winner Peniaphobia who did not run in Listed+ events for Fahey. Instead he was sold off to HK early and is currently rated 120+ there and one of the best sprinters in HK.

Balck Magic a first runner for FSS Poet's Voice and looking a solid size in his yearling picture. Looking a strong build here but just medium size perhaps. Jk Hamilton ensured BM used his Rail Draw to lead and the horse showed a mature attitude in doing as asked through the race and listening to the Jk. Took some time to get going-1.5f+ when asked for his final effort and hinted at being a scratchy mover in Front. Was that structural or was he feeling the ground? Thinking about where he fits on the Quality scale then he did not show the sort of zip nor finish of Peniaphobia and found a winnable race here with Tawakkol looking in the wrong sort of test. Inclined to think he first OR76-82 and will go the Novice/Conds route.

Tawakkol a fast break from widest and settled and going ok for 1f. Trouble started when given a mild shove after 1f by Calpurnia and forced 2 wide. Horse seeming a bit intimidated by this and never really balanced afterwards. Jk Hanagan tried to drop in 1 wide after 2f but bumped with Four's Company and Tawakkol driven soon afterwards and 2 wide around the bend. Even given the issues a disappointing effort in the HS and seemed just low level plugging on. A low slung bulky on with some length and does not not to have sprinter snap to his movement. More of a reacher. Eased last when into 2nd or might have been up to 1L closer. Looks like he needs 6f+ or a stiffer test, perhaps on slower going, at 5f. Looks the MaJo type who seem to improve when he ups them in race distance.

Calpurnia at the wrong relative SP. Has a usable 60s pedigree and the price partly reflecting the Small Stable/Female Trainer Bias of the Market. Trainer Watt has had a FTO win (her only 2yo sucess) and other hints that usable ones to some level show it FTO. Calpurnia running freely and effectively muscling the bigger Tawakkol out of contention while running a bit too free overall. Just a low level effort in the HS before an earlyish fade. Similar height to BM but lacking the bulk of that one or Tawakkol. Usable lower 60s? Can the trainer develop a career with this type with a free running issue to fix?

Four's Company an example of how sire Fast Company gets various shapes/types. Dascombe's Fresh Arugula the more narrow type. FC looking a smaller on and IP body in her 1yo Video. But, ok depth and strength and just about moving ok and balanced in the Video.

Ok start here and Jk Kingscote refrained from driving her forward to attend the pace (as he had done, suicidally with Dascombe's first two 2yos to run). Assisted in this by FC being a bit green and hesitant throughout incl losing 1-2L at one point up the hill hanging right, perhaps intimidated by Tawakkol drifting. Go back into the race and a shorter 1f effort before stalling and fading. The smallest frame here but still looking solidly built. Looks like Size and Range lack will limit her but usable type at her level (OR58-63?).

Racing Venture owned by the 'Racing Ventures' partnerships and a candidate for the they-wouldnt-use-that-name on a duff one test. Expensive given he has no pedigree on the dam's side. Trainer Quinn does get the odd FTO win but most runners are not ready and debut wins some combination of useful/natural. RV not looking ready physically nor mentally. A bit flabby and green at times through the race. Lost ground to the HS and not moving that well (Some KA and reaching a bit rather than any cadence change). Early fade. Similar height/build to FC but with a bit more body length. Has to tighten up and needs more nous - usable 60?
