GF from GFF on Decs. Watering but no details given. Stalls Stands Side. === Post Race === Very Slow time and a very soft lead for Champagne City overall and factor that in when reading the following. Champagne City another of the MaJo 2yos this season to look revelations on later runs and showing improvement out of line with expectations. In some ways odd improvement. CC looking like a tall and narrow galloper on his first 2 runs. Taking forever to get going over 7.5f LTO at BVLY. Uphill finish which can make getting ground back look laboured. But a hint he was a bit of a paceless stayer needing a grind. Over a fast 7f here he had the advantage of an easy lead but looked to win entirely on merit and showing more pace than expected. Still has a slightly ugly action in front, a bit wide and round. But, the tallest here by some way faced by medium and bulky build types and more range to his movement. But, also looking plain shinier and bulkier behind than before. Going away with a strong finish he was doing a fair impression of Buratino's blossoming when running away with the Woodcote. Presume he will try Group 7f race and fine for 8f and had scoep to improve and seems one to take seriously as a higher class stayer. Trainer's son interviewed after the race and very calm and unsurprised by the win. Speaking like he knew CC was the best horse and expected the performance he saw. Said that CC had shown them little in early work but was improving with racing. Said that jk Fanning, riding CC for first time, liked what he had felt. Confirmed the expectation that CC would be steeping up in class now. Albernathy a very different type to CC as a shorter set-up but much bulkier and heavy build. Held back to 3R allowing CC a soft lead then pulling forward before 2f out. Able to move forward to engage CC inside the last 2f and looked for a brief time like he might get ahead. But, stalling and folding back in the last 0.5f as if not staying. Able to come back and impove with the physical power and scope he has? Or, another eg that the revised Godolphin Career Devt method not getting significantly different results? Or, perhaps this form misread and a 2nd here will look fine if CC ends up in the Racing Post Trophy. Torment favourite in the morning but opened up just 2nd fav but the 'Moore effect' (an EYEcatching booking, y'know) making him favourite. Had looked green and needing a long time to win FTO and you could read his finish there in different ways. If you are only interesting in positive spin (say as a Syndicate manager) than it was an impressive display, etc. Or, you could say he managed to win by going past tired horses who had softened themselves up without proving he could get into a race. Moore had him sat 2nd but starting to creak about 3f out and not really picking up inside 2f out. Would expect some sort of ground-too-firm excuse and move on. Torment a size smaller version of the Albernathy bulky type and a different shape. Less quality though. Reading a Person-On-The-Spot type write up of the race Torment was the selection in this because he was "well entered up". Time, next winter to take apart the POTS type reviews of 2yo races and lists the vast mumber of ways they are filled with Tripe, or Offal, or whatever. If only one of them would think things through a bit from a few simple principles how much better the education for the reader would be. But, parroting Pundit Lite (& Pedigree Analysis Lite) etc. is seen as success so why would they ever bother. Morals not entering the discussion. Lucymai looking fine for 75+ in terms of power and ok presentation. A notch down from Torment and check whether her excuse for not picking up was the same as his. In VRev Lucymai perhaps mostly running her race and making a forward move relatively off the slow pace expecting too much. Got herself from 4th to 3rd past Torment and showing a bit of knee action. Probably not staying and fading back in the last 0.5f. Moving a touch awkwardly as if the going was now starting to register with her. Ivory saying before the race this was a 7f try-out, to see if she stayed |
