GF in early am from GGF on decs. 3mm of Watering after racing on Friday evening. Stalls Far Side. === Pre Race === Yearling Video for Et Toi showing a smaller and neat made type like his sire. Ok deep but looking on the smaller side and less strong in front with a longer neck. Need to have developed well from that presentation to be of any interest here. Enthusiast Palmer getting at least 3rd gear positive about Ubla in 215. But, in a manner which doesn't fit with a 7f debut nearly into July. Says he will be a "first half of the season type" and thought he could definitely win over 6f and perhaps even 5f. Look at Ubla's yearling Video after that and you can perhaps see hints of the confusion. He looks a smaller medium and compact one and if he stayed that shape could be a ready type. But, no snap to his movement in walk and gives the impression he might grow and lengthen in body shape. Would be inclined to think he will look different in PRev to his yearling shape. Rather than just looking like a slightly bigger version of the same presentation. Expect a medium galloper? Strathearn another late foal from an old dam who had seemed to stop producing competitive types a long time ago after a burst of early foal winners (like Champagne City's dam). Breeze Video for him showing a Medium Frame, at most, and perhaps a bit smaller. But a solid medium build. Most notably a balanced and ready set-up and moving ok. Not looking like a larger 7f+ type. Shows a faster action for the first 1f then slows down as he tires int he 2nd. But still going forward at the finish and using his range in a balanced way. Latest Work Video for Strathearn from Weds 24th working in a trio with the unraced 2yos Taurean Star & Ray's The Bar. Video starts with the horses miles away and making slow progress. TS & Strathearn forming up into a leading duo with RTB in behind (ridden by Frank, appropriately). The set-up seems to be to teach RTB to pull out from behind the other two then pull up to and perhaps past them in the last 1f. RTB achieves getting level with the other two by the finish which Frank having already knocked off. Strathearn looking smaller than the other two and less well built. Looking more like a ready one lacking scope in that context. If someone had bought Strathearn sight unseen with the promise that they had acquired a "nice horse" how pleased will they be when they see him for the first time in the Parade Ring with the others before this race? Spencer will be giving 6.5f of his time and effort on Strathearn here. === Post Race === Slower pace with field racing mid track and closely packed through Halfway with all 12 within 4L of the lead. Ibn Malik leading in a Lo3 but pulling and hard held still after 3f. Ok to Good Effort for first 3 to manage to pull clear of the others in a 2f sprint tacked on the end of the race. [July 21st] Strathearn given an unusually involving ride for a debut. Ok break and let him jog along in 2R. Frank even pressing Strathearn to make ground in the CZ to be in the Leading Line to 2f out. Quickly blown away in the sprint and hanging. Fading by 1f out. Medium and ok balanced. Green here & mentally young. Ok for 70 if grows and strengthens up. [July 22nd] Et Toi a solid medium one and running competently in 2R. Middling forward effort to be 4th into the last 1f. Stalling and fading later on. Under Attack smaller than ET although strobgly built. UT probably the smallest frame in the field. UT a bit greener than ET and allowed to get further back. Driven along before 2f out and taking longer to get going into the last 2f. Losing a bit of ground to ET on the initial kick. UT staying on better, without making ground back on the lead 3, to overtake ET as that one faded. UT a bit head right and offerring to hang left last 2f. Inclined to think UT the better stayer but size limited. Pair run in the same SDWN 7.1f race STO and Halfway positions and pace in that race likely to affect the relative performance. UT drawn 6 & ET 9 at SDWN. |
