Changed to G before this race (race 2) after Rain. GF in early am as on Decs. Watering as 6mm Weds. Inside HS in use. Stalls Centre. === Pre Race === Jk Moore on Phantom Flipper and on a low looking 11/2 in early am. PF running fine FTO then a peculiar 14/1 STO (race similar to this) STO and a poor run (as if it was expected). PF drift in betting? Efron ridden by Levey and cheap for a Tinkler owned horse and not listed in 215. Late pass on to the owner? Sign Of The Kodiac the first test (annual regular) of whether the placing of the winner of an RASCT race on the Estimate Scale has dragged lesser horses too high on the scale. If he really ran to 31-2 at RASCT then he should set a strong standard here. Not a typical sire sprinter and a bit taller and comes across as a galloper. Very fit and ready at RASCT so always the niggle he will regress from that. === Post Race === Field raced centre. Presume a bit above average pace with Sign Of The Kodiac taking the field along racing a bit free. Pace a bit too strong and front of field olding back into chasers in the last 0.5f. Eqleem misread from picture on MaJo website. Lengthy and very strong in front and looking much bulkier than the touch narrow SOTK. Able to travel well enough with the pace set to be able to kick to lead and hold off closers despite stalling. Phantom Flipper niggled by Halfway and making no ground for a lot of the last 2f. Staying on in last 0.5f when switched to the Far Side to get from 4th to a volunteer 2nd and coming across like a 7f type. Fatherly Fiend a taller and medium build one given no chance with the ride given. Running a bit free and held too far back off a pace only around -1L to -2L unuasable. FF then switched to Far Side to make later race progress but hampered inside the last 2f losing, say, 2L plus some momentum. Switched back left and staying on again in last 0.5f+. Interesting to see where he would have finished if sitting a competent 3R alongside PF, for eg, and able to go with the pace within himself unlike PF. |
