GS in early am from GF on Decs. Rain the previous day on watered ground meaning a set of Going changes during the Thu pm meeting. Stiff- ESE Wind = close to Direct Tailwind in the HS. Inside HS in use and CoC says the race distance is an as advertised 7f 1yd. But hard to trust what Tellwright says, black is white in his world so check the distance and rail settings. === Pre Race === Interesting to know what the background story to Planetaria. Was 'sold' for 130k at Tatts as a year to agent CGW from Athassel Stud. Then accepted for the Premier Tatts Breeze Sale in April consigned by the same Stud. Did not make the Breeze sale and WD. Now turns up with a minor Northern trainer and officially owned by him. But, no other sale recorded. What has happened to Planetaria to make him only worth giving away to a trainer when he was presumably worth 6 figures in early April? Leg fallen off? === Post Race === Slow Pace and an unsatisfactory race because of it. Field and relative abilities not spread out as much as ought to be so overall rating held down. As anyone would guess Shadow Game was sent through to lead and getting an Easy time doing it. Stacking the field from 3f out to 2f out and making the later race efforts barely 2f. SG just a medium and neat one but trying hard and able to hold the size bigger Jayjinski off until fading towards the line. Haalick becoming Varian's 1st debut winner of the season and only his 3rd overall. A taller one and a touch narrow behind although deeper and stronger in front. Seemed to produce something minorly Different in the last 0.5f+ given the Race Shape. Stalking the leading pair but getting a bump towards 1f out and left with 2L+ to get back against 2 opponents still going forward. Still 1.5L to find into the last 0.5f. Good mover and perhaps some mild quickening to fetch the leaders back and win a little comfortably in the end. Value for a clearer win. Not coming over as a strong type but a rangy type but with something extra through his movement. Which should be a real weapon in small field Nov/Conds, for eg. Midhmaar pulling too much and a shorter one, entriely different type & shape to Haalick. But, very strongly built and running too free and too wide here. Opinion raised of him and he should be able to get somewhere near 75. [July 25th] Airton a bit green early and last to the bend. But, in a slower paced raced, the jk negating a lot of that disadvantage by making ground wide in the HS before the 2f sprint started. Probably 4th in 2R when the sprint started and a lower level effort then stalling and fading in the last 0.5f and hanging left. Looking a leggy medium one. & below 75. |
