SUMMARY
Going changed to GF after Race 1 - this was Race 4. Usual ambiguous Data on the BHA website with the change to GF with a "(watered)" added to it. No explanation of this and was it more watering on the Day? If so then why bother with a Going Stick figure from 06:45am. How does the going change from GFF to GF over the course of a dry day with a solid wind? GFF in early AM from GF on Decs. 5mm watering on 21st April.

Medium to Stiff NW Wind = 1/4 Headwind from the Right.

============

Fahey in his SL piece on Friday = "Gallipoli is quite a nice horse who makes his debut in the Maiden Stakes. I’ve no idea how strong the race is but my fellow has been working with some of our two-year-olds who have won and I think he’ll run okay.".

=======

Single view take on the race that is was a very good end to a day which saw two likeable performances earlier. A solid looking field on the brief ATR pictures, Field taken along in Centre track by Twisting Hay and attended by a tigerish Roll On Rory That pair upping the pace after Halfway to stetch the fiield out and a good effort by Gallipoli to 'fetch' them back. ROR eventually wearing THay out and that responding to Gallipoli and hinted briefly lat on at getting back at hime.

Roll On Rory the biggest 'Lurker' of the season so far and the type of surprise runner only Paddock Review will find (aside from Inside Info and starting at 33/1 the 'owners' of the core info did not know what they had). No Fluke in his run and a solidly built at least Medium sized one running prominently from the start.

Worth recording that the day was 'Anzac Day' recording the bravery of Aussie & NZ troops at the botched offensive at the port of Gallipoli (modern day Turkey) in the First World War. The campaign that Churchill supported as Lord of the Admiralty and having been removed went to serve on the front line in the trenches to try to redeem the error.

Interesting to link the horse Gallipoli to a couple of Videos that trainer Fahey has tweeted this year. The 'Visuals and Numbers' article noted a grainy one from January 10th of a 2yo by Pivotal ex Rag Top. A chunky chestnut horse. The article pondered over why tweet a Video of this horse. One possibility was that it might be the apple-of-his-eye at the time and Fahey sharing his enthusiasm. On April 2nd he tweeted a short Vine Video clip of a chunky chestnut going 2-3L clear of a set of 2yos at the finish of an uphill piece of work. He did not identify the 2yo but made it clear he "liked it". The current assumption is that the chunky chestnut is Paddy Power (i.e. the name given to the Pivotal ex Rag Top) who is entered for a NEWC Novice next Tuesday. @TimPateman suggested that the 3rd & 4th horses behind PP in the Vine Video were Gin In The Inn (won FTO LEIC) and Gallipoli. Which makes Paddy Power's effort in the Vine Video even more interesting and also worthwhile knowing who the other two horses in it are.

=== Post VRev ===

Mixed Pace to the race with an Average or Slower Pace for 1f with Twisting Hay taking the field along in centre track and some pulling behind. Pace seemed to pick up after Roll On Roy recovered from a slow start to move up to join TH in the 2nd 1f. Solid pace then until a real 'Kick' 2f out which saw the first 3 home stretch away from the others. Those 3 rolling into each other with THay in the middle squeezed back but already creaking and going slower than the first 2 home when it happened. Downgraded the [Est] after the first full run through.

Worth noting that on what was supposed to by GF going the field were kicking up shallow divots throughout. Consistent with watering that only gets into the Top Layer and leaves the horses breaking through that layer to the Firm ground below but with a loose and moving surface on top. Which trainers regularly complain about but Racecourses, CoCs, etc take no notice nor pay heed to the BHA directive to aim for GF ground for Flat Racing.

Gallipoli an interesting physical type and not a typical 5f 2yo. A bit taller and narrower and compared to some here a weaker looking neck. Try comparing his he makes progress from 2R in the last 2f. A bit green overall and leaves the question how did he manage to win. The answer would seem to be his athletic movement. He visibly has more range to his movement and made the ground back on the leading pair by increasing his stride length and not the cadence. Niggle over his lack of power but winning over 5f here down to his rangy movement and should stay further. Lack of power will catch up with somewhere but a solid 80+ on movement.

Roll On Rory a different physical type to Gallipoli as an example. ROR just medium height and body length. On the plus side a deep body and strongly made and the movement seems ok. On top of that add a good coat and condition and a tigerish, willing, attitude. Poor break but pulled himself forward to the slowe early pace and engaged THay before Halfway which kicked the race off. Got a slight bump and took time to get going at 2F but battling hard against TH and found a bit extra to chase Gallipoli once that one led and then started hanging. Solid 75+ and should rate OR80+ and the attitude should negate the lack of trainer experience.

Twisting Hay allowed a comfortable lead overall and a solid effort at 2f out. But beaten by two better types here and somewhere int he 70-75 region and vulnerable in better maidens.

Meghwar the first debut for Varian in 2015 and a very 'ready FTO' trainer. Which would mean he should compete for the places FTO. The fact that he was a moderate 4th here a mix of reasons. Primarily just a medium one and compete for the smallest in this field and lacking the bulk/power of ROR, for example. Ran too freely earlier in the race then got outpaced (?) by 2f out as the final efforts went. Staying on ok in the last 1f. 70+ but bot a strong open maiden type.

Gorokai presumably the first 2yo for McCabe from important owner Fitri Hay's husband. McCabe present in his usual overbearing way and in full suit. An older guy leading the horse up also besuited rather than the usual youngster dressed for mucking out. Gorokai not bought by McCabe's agent but looked a typical type the trainer buys. Shorter with body length anf deep and bulky with it. The old question coming back of how much does the 'shape' of horses fall under the control of the trainer and their methods. The Market seemed keen and you wonder what the Signal was the Market thought it heard and from where. Has the bulk to be 75 but niggles over the movement he showed here. Ran a bit free earlier but another who looked outpaced at 2f out and not just through inexperience. Shows a solid Knee Action (KA) and the action in front a bit scrabbly. Looked head down and willing but going as fast as he could. Inclined to think a firmer ground 5f not suiting him and needing a slower test and definitely in a solid quality maiden. Given McCabe's MO you would think he would end up ironing out some rabbits at SWEL.

Jk Dobbs riding Point Of Woods for Beckett and any link up this season? POW babyish overall, prelims - TP and in the race. A medium one and solidly made and should be 70+ and check where he fits. Slow start but got back onto the group ok. But, a real niggle was the way he raced with his head up and forawrd throughout. This did not look like any attitiude issue (too stupid to complain at this time) and more structural. But, it meant he never looke dlike he was moving efficiently and outpaced and hanging into the last 2f. Need to see that his nous and movement have improved STO.

Rateel another medium and less chunky one in this group and made a tour of the racecourse having been drawn against the Stands' rail and over towards the far side when he was eased. The worst free-runner and pullr in the race. Earliest fade in line with that. Say 67-71 and a bit less power, less neatly made and lesser efficient mover in front compared to the baetter ones here.
