Good in early am from GFG on Decs. 6mm Rain on Monday. === Pre Race === Quinn in 215 saying he expected Al Zubarah to be running by late April or early May. Expected to be able to win a maiden. Breeze Video for Harmonic Wave looks plain WYSIWYG. Video starts with the longshot and HW going from a standingish start to her speed quickly. Rolls along fine and straight. Moves mostly cleanly and uses the range she has. On the negative side she is a smaller one and lacking scope. A ready 5f sprint filly and 40k paying for getting a good chance of a winner rather than it looking like 'value' over any worthwhile period (how many purchases actually are). Also, the cadence just looking around average and she does reach a bit more when pressed by the rider later on rather than trying to up the leg speed. Size limited to late 60s in real terms probably but looks uncomplicated and usable. Picture on the Duffield website fits well with the smaller, ready sprint filly lacking scope. Body a bit deeper than expected and ok power behind. A bit less good in front. But, compact body and should rattle along fine within the size limitations. Breeze Video for Lady Clair not as good as €55k sounds. Usual low angle level for the Arqana breeze videos as if you are peering over a hedge. Smaller with ok bulk and perhaps some length. Has a slightly faster than average cadence but with some KA. Holds her head tot he right and never looks like she is flowing forward smoothly. Did she do an ok time? Might blossom if the movement niggles went away but just a so-so take on the Video viewing. Breeze Video for Quiet Reflection showing another smaller one but less bulk than either of HW or LC in their videos. Not the deep compact sprinter of HW say. A bit of length and a bit shallow bodied. Shows some real KA in movement and overall effect of all 4 legs a bit ragged. Moves mostly straight but a negative take overall. === Post Race === £10k Bonus status seeming to gather a solid field for a 5f race at the course. A possible for producing 1-3 Open Maiden quality winners given the stables represented & purchase prices at the sales. Final result a touch disappointing given that biling. Copacobana in first time headgear and able to get from a wide draw to lead on the rail. That at a course where the inside draws have an advantage if they go forward and use their draw. That didn't happen here with 7th & 10th Widest drawn fillies able to, relatively, amble to the lead for little effort then press the pace on once there and stretch the field out. Main disappointment is that Copacobana came into the race with OR65 and doesn't have the size nor scpe to think she was running above that here. Lady Clair bigger and bulkier and able to sit in 2R on the rail (the best S&P spot) behind Copacobana. Deeper and stronger than Copacobana and eventually able to get a rail run when the leader rolled off it when tiring. First winner of the season for Barron and FTO wins typical with solid ones. Time to put him into the 'Stable Ready' category. LadyC moving straight in the last 1f when clear and finishing the race off. Ok 70+ but winning this race taking less than thought pre-race. As expected, Baby Ballerina finding a fastish 5f the wrong race for her and under pressure to sit midfield at halfway and laboured staying on to a never-in-it 3rd. Seems to have missed her boat and can find fast 5 too fast and stiff 6f too far. Seems to need something like BVLY 5f again. Harmonic Wave looking as advertised from her breeze video. A nippy uncomplicated 5f type by her sire and di fine to get from a wide draw to attend the lead. But fading in the last 1f like a possible short runner. Lack of scope? Al Zubarah & Dancing Years expensive buys for major connections and drawn 1 & 2. If either was agood zippy one then a fine set-up to get out and win with minimum fuss. Later debuts suggesting they aren't ready naturals and both drifting in the Market (variable indicator for Fahey but more important with Quinn). Neither of those 2 looking bigger types in context and along with Fast Cat from stall 3 got into a 3-way bumping match out from the rail when all 2 held back to allow the crossers from wider draws. That not helping the expensive pair and FCat then bumped and hampered back when the bigger Baby Ballerina joined in the barging from outside. End of FCat's prospects and BB slightly unbalanced. Fahey hasn't had a debut winner since May 16th and after a gap does seem to be starting a few possible solid types in the last 10 days but most haven't been competitive FTO. DYears a bit free after the bumping and the jk seemed happy to settle for an educational intro overall. Girls In A bentley a small free-runner on 3TO. Jk seemed happy to drop her in well back and see if she would settle and wait for whatever a Nursery 4TO looks like. |
