SUMMARY
G from GF on Decs, 4mm of Watering the previous Weds. Presume rain on Sat into Sun but no information given. CoC also noting the GStick is broken to endure they have to give even less info.

Rail moved out to be out 11yds at the 6f Pole and narrows down to 5yds out by the Finishing Line. The CoC notes claim this is to "provide fresh racing ground". Which is nonsense, surely. If the railed had been moved inwards to reveal ground not used at the last Meeting this would make sense.

Medium to Light Westerly Wind = Direct Tailwind in the HS.

==== Pre Race Video Rev ===

Shanghai Glory presumably bought by Hills to try to give the owners another 'Cotai Glory' who was also by Exceed And Excel. Another Chestnut and a solid size type by the sire and not as narrow as some. Looks a bit lighter behind than CG and not a neatly made as that one (yet). Moves fine and perhaps starting at 5f (CG started at 6f then dropped back) with Moore riding a good sign. Has he developed well?

Hills other FTO is the filly High Speed with Buick riding. A completely different type physically to the taller, less bulky SG. High Speed a smaller ready 5f sprint type by Kodiac. Short, not much range but ok power. Walk looks so-so and would like to see evidence she has turned into a snappy sprinter and not too small.

Hills' website blog on morning of the race = "This week we start at Windsor with our first two year old runners of the year Shanghai Glory& High Speed. Although the two year olds have done plenty of ground work during the winter it's taken a while for them to come to themselves. Both horses will probably need the run, but will give us a good gauge on where we stand with the two year olds. ".

=== First View ===

Main reaction to first view was that the pace was too fast nad, like with Raj To Riches, an Evans FTO fit and ready to go pressing the pace from the lead. Unlike RTR's race this had some solid opposition but they all tried to chase SW so the first 4 through halfway walking through the last 1f in various ways. This allowed horses like High Speed & Bathos who were miles back at Halfway to close up by the finish. But, oddly, the Closing seemed to have been complete by into the last 1F and the Closers then making no further ground or perhaps losing a bit?

Evans maintains his record of debuts being compete to win or dreadful although the Market seems to know more these days and has shortened in stages over the years from the days when FTO wins were 33/1. David Evans himself always giving the impression at times in the past he did not have the bottle to set a FTO 'job' but perhaps his son is less restrained (in that sense). SW would have been the 2nd colours to Silver Springs if that one had run which would seem a typical ploy in these circumstances.

=== Full VRev ===

Dropped the Estimates after VP & Full VRev. Visually a bit different 'Flow & Fold' caused by Silver Wings going a bit free early and being 1.5L clear after 1f+ but then settling and mostly running the race efficiently from there. SW dropping to low level plugging on into the last 1f but that enough to pull away from the others who had caught up to him. SW also the fittest so seeing out the race bets. For example, Archimedes a 1L slower start than SW and probably 1.5L back when that one FFH but Archimedes pulling forward to be disputing the lead across the intersection. o.5L down into the last 2f and 1L+ by 1f to go and losing ground slowly from there and beaten around visual 2.5L by the line.

Silver Wings a ready debut in the manner of Raj To Riches here. Evans had only one win before this and that by a FTO filly and the other best run by RTR when just beaten on debut here. The other FTOs all well beaten. SW in the 2nd Colours before Silver Springs an NR and Donohoe riding with Queally booked for SS.

SW on his toes and fizzy in the prelims as RTR was. SW a bit more bulk all round than RTR but a bit 'two halves'. The front a bit narrow and weaker looking but rounder and more powerful behind. If RTR is a late 60s one then SW into the 70s and balanced movement and zip perhaps getting him around 75. Cheap buy relatively and probably looked a bit weak as a yearling. Still a mixed set-up but the power in the right place and it works well enough for a 5f zip.

Archimedes an expensive one, partly just pedigree, and at an SP for a usable Cole debut. But, sleepy in the prelims and not fully fit. A short one but strongly built. In the race ran freely at times but just an ok effort and looking a bit laboured inside the 2f mark. How much of that just being green and lacking full fitness? Fading in the last 0.5f and losing ground to the winner. Say around 80 at best.

The pictures below show Shanghai Glory on the Right and the 2yo of 2014 Cotai Glory on the Left. SG running for the same owner/trainer as CG and both by the sire Exceed And Excel. Shanghai Glory cost €115,000 while 75,000gns. You presume the connections were trying to replicate the success with CG.

Shanghai Glory not out of a dam proven to get 5f 2yos and not showing the same pace that CG did FTO. SG taking time to get going in the last 2f and not well balanced. Seemed to be staying on again in the final 1f. A good size but not as neatly made as CG and not a balanced a mover. Not fit here and solid 75+ but may need 6f.

Dream Dreamer a cheap one at £35k given her FS sire's average/median. Also because she is out of a very fast 2yo filly who led the big Queen Mary field for nearly 4f in her year. The dam a short, compact, ball while sire Dream Ahead was a bigger, longer bodied type. DD a mix of those types and a smaller one but with sprinter snap and moves ok. Ran a bit free before Halfway but travelling about 2nd best in the race to the winner (compared to the bulkier but less zippy looking) colts 2nd/3rd. DD challenging 2nd until fading and a good debut by trainer standards. Has been entered for the SALS fillies' Conds race later in the week. Looks a solid 75 zippy 5f type.

Sparky Jack lacking some length for his height (HRE typical) but at least medium size. Should be usable 60s but Poweel another trainer it is hard to trust. If SJ was with Hannon you would be 90% or more certain he would win something. But, he wouldn't be knocking his head against strong maidens and messing with his OR mark on STO.

High Speed a small to smaller but chunky type of her sire. Should be a 70+ sprinter. Hard to judge here because effectively kept out of the race by her Jk. Only showing lower level plugging on and would want to see more positives STO.

If HS look like a small sprinter type who did not show it FTO then Bathos is very different in comparison. A taller, slightly narrow, male and not looking a 5f sprinter and more a 7f type. Another to get miles behind with the Jk doing little. Staying on ok until eased. Has the size to be 80+ but presumably at 6f+. Too green here as well.

Indigo making little impression overall here. A smaller one but made ok and might be 60_ with development. Wide drawn here and ended up last and crossed behind (XB) to the rail. Some mild plugging on in the last 2f.

Trainer Bridger has no record with 2yos but had a surprise debut 3rd here at a previous meeting with Stormflower (also entered for the SALS Conds race). Deer Song ultimately finishing where you expect A Bridger debut to but by a different route than 'usual'. Travelling ok in 2R until stalling and hanging left very early into the last 2f. But, a solid size for 3.2k and another ok for usable 60s with Hannon. Also, like SJ, lacking some body length for his height. Green a bit too fizzy and not fit enough here. Can Bridger get any progress with this sort?
