GGF in early am from GGS on Decs. CoC quote = "The entire length of the rail has been moved out by between 3 and 12 yards.... actual race distance will be: Race 4 - Race 4 - 7f 41y (+39y)". === Post Race === Spencer riding Palawan, Norton on Welford. That sort of mismatch, at this sort of niche track, probably needs capturing in the [Prf]. [July 28th] Both Welford & Palawan run in the 7f Gp2 Vintage Stakes at GDWD. As expected the jk battle between Norton/Spencer one-sided on this track. Norton doing enough early on the get Welford to the lead on the rail then slowing the pace and controlling the race to suit himself and a slowish overall time. A set-up where an opponent will have to be notably superior to run against the track/pace biases to win. Spencer edning up 2 Wide after 1f then having to throw energy away to haul Palawan back to 2R and 1 Wide. Welford still looking a neat Medium, at best with Gerrard's Quest running alongside lookign bulkier and stronger. Norton rides Beaverbrook in the GDWD Group race (1st colours) with Fanning on Welford. This not looking good enough for that race but how long would he hang on in the lead if Welford was a llowed an Easy Lead? Welford not left with a stiff task to win given he had the Pace and track position on his side. Plus, his neat size and set-up meaning he handled the track. Gerrard's Quest haivng to run outside Welford the whole way and WTRB saying he hung right throughout. Certainly didn't pick up at 2f out and rollign around and still able to be just behind Welford at the line. Palawan also looking uncomfortable on the track to add to the early inefficiencies. Driven along at times and a moderate effort at 2f out, a bit head up. Spongy has looked more a stayer and also finding this track not best suited to his galloping, stay-on-late style. Not helped by being hampered by Palawan after 1.5f and niggled along to keep up after that. Betsy Coed green and adrift off-the-back well before Halfway |
