Rain throughout the day. Officially GS by this race but still raining and going changed to S after Race 2. This Race 1. GF in Early am from GGF on Decs. Rain Forecast to arrive before the Meeting starts. === Pre Race === Breeze Video for Justice Law all positive although he doesn't come across as a fast ground 6f type (staying on well if rain comes). Grey and a good size, strong, slightly tall Medium at least. Above average length and broader front. Seems a relaxed character and mentally mature. Only sways around the timing equipment rather than jinking right as many do. But, in movement he confirms the view of a 7f+ galloper with solid scope. Medium cadence. Runs straight and finishes the breeze off ok. Looks fine for 80+ at 7f, say. Beckett names Short Work his 'Bargain Buy' in 215 and right type for mid season Auction races. Says he is "heavy topped". === Post Race === Hannon website after the race = "Wall of Fire was similarly impressive when making a winning debut in the colts race - won by 1975 Derby winner Grundy when it was called the Granville Stakes - and Hughes said: 'He was a bit lazy in front, but I gave him a couple of slaps and he put his head down and went again. Like all ours, he can only improve, but we have quickly discovered that while the first crop of Canford Cliffs are pretty smart, they are not all precocious, so we have given this one plenty of time. I was always taught that a river doesn't need pushing, so you have to be patient with horses and let them come along in their own time. Wall of Fire is still a bit weak, but he is strengthening all the time, though I recommended Richard not throw in him the deep end just yet'". WoF a real positive in his yearling Video (try looking at it and try to identify the on BIG thing that stands out as positive). [Aug 6th] Stalls Centre and field racing centre and a slower pace. Drifting over to FrSd-Cent, after halfway. Leading trio of Wall Of Fire, Short Work & Dark Shot going along settled with a hard pulling Approcaillis held in behind. Somers Lad in last pair at halfway but niggled along at times and showing signs of being green and/or not handling the going. Field on the Far Rail by inside the last 2f. Somers Lad already off the back with Dobbs getting spectacularly busy with the whip for a Hannon FTO 2yo. Which would suggest he is 'lazy' at least. Justice Law probably just medium size in this group but travelling well and finding a 1-2L kick away from Short Work & Fawaareq by the line once getting a gap 1f out. Also encouring Hughes to get a bit active again on Wall Of Fire with him rollong home since he could see he had the other two held. Approcaillis an ok size in this group, at least a solidly built medium if just IP body length. Pulled too hard before halfway. Just a brief effort at 2f out and stalling by 1f+ out and then fading. Some excuse for pulling too hard and looks fine for 70+ of some sort. |
