GFG in early am from GF on Decs. 1.5mm of Rain on Mon am. 6mm Watering Sun, 5mm Mon. Rail out "up to 14ft". Stiff-Strong WSW Wind = just under 3/4 Headwind. === Pre Race === Hills in 215 saying Cliffs Of Dover a "great big horse, start over 7f". Looking at his 1yo Video a solid size and has presumably grown taller. Deep & square front with narrower Hip. Moves well at the walk, balanced and flowing. Looks fine for 75+ at some point but, fitting in with the 215 comments, presume this will be 7f+. Check for promise here. - On checking Hills' website blog for this week his comments about CoD fit the overall story = "Cliffs Of Dover is a bit gawky at home and the experience of going racing will bring him on hugely.". With Hughes retired need to check how the jk ranking at Hannon's plays out. He has said he will continue to use Dobbs/Levey as the main choices. Both were apprentices through the Hannon yard. As were Ryan Moore & Dane O'Neill and an aspect of the Hannon record that rarely gets mentioned is the number of jks they have 'trained'. In this race Dobbs rides Battle Pride with A5 Mahon on Ice Bond & A5 Marquand on Spanish Boy. Both of those A5 jks ride for a range of stables but both have ridden winners for Hannon recently. Since both Dobbs & Moore used to ride 2nd/3rd string 2yo winners for Hannon need to check that the apparent jk Ranking is correct. For example with the Hannon jks, Spanish Boy cost £80k at the DBS Breeze Sale and if he were the only Hannon runner in the race he would presumably be a lot shorter in the Market than the 10/1 in early am. The Breeze Video is mostly positive but not as a 6f type. Taller type although perhaps just IP body length. Longer and upright neck but ok strength with it. Looks a bit 'raw' as if he is still growing and has scope to grow. Breeze is just ok and runs a bit green in centre track. Medium cadence and little knee lift/curl. Fine for size strength and especially if he grows well but a niggle that the parts dont' make a full story yet. Not a lengthy rangy stayer type on the Breeze but lacking the cadence, on what he showed, to be a fast 2f. But, if he has grown well could compete for the first 3 in a 6f maiden depending upon the depth. Which goes back to the jk issue. Is Dobbs riding for major owner MPR because of the relationship he has built up with them and because he wants to ride the next Toormore or Kool Kompany. Not because Battle Pride is necessarily the best horse of the Hann 3. === Post Race === |
