GFG from GF on Decs. Very Strong SW Wind on the Day = 1/2 Headwind from Left on the Ridge, 3/4 Headwind from the Right From Halfway. 30mph Wind general and Gusts over 50mph. CoC quote = "Rail moved out 2.5 yards onto fresh ground adding 9 yards to distances". === Pre Race === As expected the Stewards and CoC consulted with Jks and Trainers before going ahead with the meeting. CoC interviewed in PRing and said they would run this race and then review the feedback from the Jks. Update = Racing Abandoned after the 2nd race because of High Winds. This was Race 1. You got very lucky Marcus, probably wanted to tie the Jks onto the horse and run this race whatever the conditions. Looking at the Stewards' Report the reason for the abandonment was the wind blowing off the matting placed over the public roads which cross the track. === Post Race === Low standard even for BTON. Very Slow time and 1.6secs slower than any other 2yo race since start 2010. Slowest previous time 65.92s on Soft going. Moderate to Poor horses and a very strong headwind and a walking finish. Fast Gold looking anu unlikely winner in the HS and hanging right up the hill again. Got from 3rd going nowhere to win by staying on a bit better late. Comedy Night going past the two Tregoning runners into the last 1f but fading late on. Well done Marcus, you have managed to win a 3 horse race, partly by accident, when you had two of the 3 runners. Comedy Night a half brother to 3 x high class 2yos by Elnadim and full brother to a duff one who cost a similar amount. 30,000gns on the 'cheap' side given his relations. The 'short fat bloke' type that Royal Applause gets and shorter than FG for example. Some extra body length and not a compact one. Strongest build of the four and mostly fit for the day. Would probably have won the race without the unusual Wind conditions. But, limited by his size and a low 60s sprinter? Fast Gold shown a young and stupid attitude in 2 previous runs and just a bit better here. Still a slow start and still hanging right in the HS. Even when inching towards the lead in the last 1f 'walk' still hanging, putting his head in the air and looking unbalanced. Seems to start hanging more after he changes lead and goes Left or Right depending upon which lead. Can improve a bit if he ever becomes professional but 50s of some sort and got lucky in finding a maiden as weak as this to win. Port Gaverne shorter and smaller than FG but more knowing. Seemed to have no excuses, aside from running a touch free, and beaten by two stronger horse here in a weak race. Comes across and a 'Toy' one and too small. Trainer Bridger has no record with 2yos and probably his only win back in 2005. He has run 29 individual 2yos since then with no win and no places on debut (that's Shawesque). Deer Song the tallest here but narrower type than the other 3. Ran competently in the lead and still near front rank 1f out but then faded very quickly. Bridger has failed this season to get the best out of Stormflower and DS looking in lesser condition here though did seem to settle. Might be of vague interest given his cheap sales price in a weak Auction race if trained by someone like Robert Eddery but not with this trainer. ========== Stewards' Enquiry text = "The Stewards held an enquiry into why TIM THE TAXI, ridden by Kieren Fox and trained by Natalie Lloyd-Beavis, was dismounted by the jockey on the way to the start and returned to the saddling box, and subsequently withdrawn by the stewards. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. The rider stated that as he cantered down to the start the colt became fractious and threw his head around. Without an Irish martingale attached to the reins they came over the horse’s head resulting in the rider losing full control. The trainer's representative concurred with these comments. The Stewards noted his explanation.". |
