=== Pre Race ===

Cuppatee the Channon apparent 1st string with Bishop riding and seems to be the current basic first choice, until he needs better. And until he falls out with Bishop to add to the pile of ex-jks. Work Gallop video of Cuppatee from April 10th with 5 x 2yo fillies with a lead. Only Sixties Sue of the 5 has run and placed in a low level SALS Conds race looking a smallish one. 2 other fillies un-named plus the unrace Cooperess . Hard to be 100% on the ID but Sixties Sue seems to be held up at the back and eased and last at the finish. The "Lilbourne Lad" seems to go best. Cuppatee looking small and niglled a bit but finishes 3rd with the Lead Horse (?). But a slower, controlled work and no putting any extra pressure on other than being uphill.

Hard to see what the €160k was for in the yearling video of Little Voice. Smaller and compact body length. Ok deep and range behind. Bit weaker step front. A smaller sprinter type but lacking some power behind and a bit size limited. Check size PRev. [Frank riding and a middle draw which would put Frankel under pressure to win FTO].

Pacches the apparent Channon 2nd string with a new (?) A7 riding. Only Gallop Video from early on as March 6th. Older filly Zuzinia leading and none of the 4 x 2yo fillies have run yet. the ubiquitous Jersey Breeze in the Gallop who should be able to be used to tie the Videos together. Slow work with fillies looking green. Pacches in the rear pair with JB as VT starts then drops to last and hard to judge whether this is designed, too green, or both. Off the back of the group but held and not losing ground at the finish. A lot of looking around by the Riders at the finish as if they had failed to make the Gallop work how it was suposed to. Inclined to park this video as too flawed to make real judgements on.

Tears In My Eyes cost 130k but a fair bit of that could just be pedigree and relations. By a precocious 2yo sire ex a slow Dam. Compared to some of the smaller, compact and chunky types seen in recent 1yo VTs this one different. Showing the longer body type coming through from Acclamation (& presumably the dam's side). Weaker looking neck and legs/below. Probably smaller medium but gives the impression she has some scope to grow (unlike the more ready looking compact ones). But, a bit raw and needs to develop well and not an obvious better type. Representing a 'ready FTO' trainer and Moore booked. PRev needs to settle how big she is now and whether she has strengthened up enough and looks more together. On the 1yo Video versus her vying to be favourite then err on side of oppose unless PRev presentation changes that.

=== Post VRev ==

Race with a variable history and this a return to a bigger field like the noughties when the race divided on occasions (probably pre Global Financial Meltdown). A look back over the last 5 seasons show the race has produced on 2yo Group winner (successful here in 2011), a few Open maiden winners (the odd win winning a Conds race) and not a great deal else. This an average looking field on Profile depending upon what quality the Hannon pair were. Shape of results suggest a field with a few Open Maiden candidates and the odd Conds event candidate but not a strong edition. Solid Pace with Caitie & Alaskan Phantom pressing on too hard having hooked up as a Leading Pair. Halfway Positions to Final Placing attesting to a too fast pace with the Leading Pair well back and the first two home the 2R at Halfway but starting to fold back themselves by the line. A set-up where making some ground after Halfway relatively 'cheap' to achieve.

Miss Moneypenny too green on debut to put a race together and racing away from the rail to past Halfway as another problem. Got a thinking ride from Dobbs and the typical 'Hannon Alumni' method of letting problems that will fix themselves do so without adding to the noise/chaos but stepping in to solve issues when required. Dobbs dropping MissM out of the Leading line as the pace too stiff and then waiting until 1.5f out to ask for a final effort. Not JUMP up and down at the 2f pole because that is what you are supposed to do. The Leaders coming back to him anyway and he was probably aware his filly needing nursing home to win having sat a bit too close to the pace. MissM looking a smaller medium compact and ready sprinter. Well muscled and prepared here. Size looking a problem to get above the 78-80 range. Seems unlikely to go much higher and would expect her to be in nurseries after trying something Conds+.

Picture of her at the finish below. Which seems to show MissM as a small neat 'ball' of muscle but a touch small. Also note Jk Dobbs sitting neat and quiet and keeping himself out of the way if things are under control. Bouncing up and down doesn't make a 'strong' Jk, it makes an unbalanced one playing to the punter audience while adding unnecessary energy and stress into the system.

Performance of Pacches suggesting the reading of her as the Channon 2nd String an error in Profiling. Perhaps Jk Bishop isn't the de facto 1st choice and keep an eye on where A7 Cremin fits at the yeard. The PRev also suggesting Paches superior to Cuppatee Pacches seeming to run well from a wide stall and having run too free in the race. Got such a good break from the stalls you would wonder whether she burst her gate open early. An untypical one by sire Clodovil as not Grey and not a typical sire shape. Picture and PRev suggest 75 a top end and raise some doubts over how strong this whole field and race was. Need care going forward in checking how the placed horses go STO etc. Might the race be almost empty of solid Open Maiden types?

Bournemouth Belle the Hannon 1st string with Hughes riding but Market suggesting an ordinary one. Debuts wins for Hannons usually needs a better one or an accident in a weak race. BB lengthy in comparison to MissM and not that fit. Given a 'semi-Educ Intro' by Hughes but the right side of the 'Schooling in Public' line. A bit green as well and probably an ordinary one around 75 getting going to peak STO in a targetted race of the correct quality.

It's an ILLNESS, Spencer. Frank now so far lost into his own world of what makes 'jockeyship' that he is unble to spot and correct his own errors. If he ever was capable of that. He really believes what he is doing is acceptable and, more improbably, efficient. Having given a horrible example of 'Schooling in Public' on Hills' Kyllukey at ASCT over the weekend here he was at it again on Hills' Little Voice.

Slow start, skulk around at the back then some late HnH plugging on to 4th. Never put into the race to achieve the 'Best possible placing' as he and Hills are required to do. Stewards doing nothing again. Spencer having the nerve to blame the horse for a slow start. Frank, it's you. Nearly every horse you ride you allow to flop out of the stalls to make it easier to get to the back. Horses are not stupid. LV was probably just reading your signals and thought this was nothing important. If you put Kingscote, or Dobbs, etc on LV she would not have been last out of stalls. It's YOU.

Little Voice questioned in profile over whether €160k was much too steep for a smaller sprinter. In PRev looking like a usable spirnter and still s bit small. Also Front heavy looking at the picture but a bit more strength than average in the field overall. Once Spencer had woken up LV making some ok progress but in a set-up allowing cheaper closing to be done. Another around 75 say but not a 'convert STO' certainty and more check the race quality oand how she looks. Hopefully without Frank riding.

Alaskan Phantom looking a bigger one in her debut race where she carried top weight as the most expensive runner. Looking less good in this field and partly because she seemed to have gone lighter build and not in good condition. Ridden by James Doyle and gave the impression she was in a funny mood AP. Jk unseated or getting off a couple of times then loaded without the rider. Doyle standing in the next stall until the last minute when he had to get on.

AP then responding to some early niggling to lead then resenting it when the Jk asked her to settle and fought that. AP then getting unbalanced when asked for her final effort. Looking a dull effort overall from a lesser presentation physically in PRev and unprofeesional for most of the AP and race. Say around 70 and needing a lesser race to win. Trainer Kubler has seemed reliable in his short career and interesting to see if he can 'fix' AP.

Trainer Portman had his first two debuts of the season and both at shorter SPs than the profile would suggest. Tiz Herself looking a smaller medium sprinter. Complete shape and ok build muscle. A bit smaller but all seems to work together. Flighty in the prelims, as the picture shows, the a bit green in the race. This descended into persistently hanging left in the last 2f+ to be almost unrideable. A usable later 60s, leak 70s one who needs to grow up mentally and be able to put a professional race together. Ready type physically and that already in place.

Herridge the Hannon 2nd string and partly because she was so green and 'young'. Too daft to get involved in the race. Looks ok for later 60s and should be ready STO to compete at here level (BATH or BTON?).

Cuppatee a small one lacking power in PRev and clearly less strong/able than Pacches. Got behind and Never in the race but still made 2.5 VPLs after halfway to show how cheap that was to do (compare Little Voice). Low to mid 50s onad no interest.

On PRev at NOTT & here the punt on Caitie looked baffling. A smaller one and lacking some power and neatness. Active ride to get her to lead and never fully settled. But a modest final effort even given that in line with her lower 60s (? with added cheap speed to llok better in work gallops?).

Naziba small and not mentally ready here. Check again when readier but probably 50s and no interest.

Yearling video of Tears In My Eyes raised question over whether the 130k price tage was too much influenced by pedigree and not enough by how big she was and what she weighed. PRev here suggesting there has been no Duckling to Swan action and a smaller and mousy attituded one. Some extra length (compare MissM for eg) and light behind. Never actively put in the race by Moore after a slow start and still showing a hesitant attitude and a bit green. Lower to mid 60s on PRev and of little interest. You wonder if reality will apear STO and no Moore and a longer SP (unless in a weak Maiden).

Cox 2yos tend to show a lot of their ability FTO. Silken Skies small and underpowered and looking a bit 'Toy' in the picture. Uninteresting 50s.

Princess One Much looking a bit narrow and light. Active ride from the Jk suggesting POM lacking a compliant attitude. Only of some minor interest because she is the first debut of the season for Blanshard. The odd winners he gets tend to be (include) the first runner so perhaps he thinks POM can win something weak.

Worth mentioning the yearling picture of Bella Imperatrix. She is by the sire Holy Roman Emperor who gets plenty of 2yo winners but his overall record is below average. Especially given the support he has been given at stud. He was a smaller compact one himself and gets a lot of that type which can be hard to warm to. BImp looking the bigger strong end of his type although the narrow hip behind a bit of a niggle. But, a positive response to the 1yo picture and interesting to see how she has developed. Filly apparently made it to the course but as 'Cast in Her Box' which means falling or sprawling with some set of her legs splaying. Horse's limb are designed to going forward and backward and are quite rigid otherwise. Doing some set of 'the splits' is going to tear muscles somewhere.
