Full text of the Steward's Enquiry = "The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of OCEAN READY, ridden by Luke Morris and trained by Sir Mark Prescott, which travelled well on the outside of the field until turning into the home straight, when it appeared to lose ground before staying on from 2 furlongs out to finish sixth, beaten 7½ lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer that a post-race examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities, and observations from the Handicapper. The rider stated that his instructions were to go forward and sit third or fourth on the heels of the leaders. He added that the colt over-raced slightly in the early stages and was caught three wide before receiving a nudge on the home turn, causing him to become unbalanced, after which he stayed on at one pace. The representative confirmed that the ride given accorded with the instructions, adding that OCEAN READY is a big, backward, immature colt. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations". |
