GS in early AM from GSS on Decs. Strong to Very Strong Westerly Wind = 3/4+ Headwind from the Right. . === Pre Race === Chief Entertainer the 4th Breeze graduate of the year to run, all from Brightwells at ASCT. CE held back and does a very slow canter around the bend to the start of the 2f breeze. Head goes up and perhaps running slightly free when let go but probably more to do with the rider, who is intriguingly terrible. She/he probably hauling back so hard with the reins to make the head go back. Had to watch the video several times and keep reminding to look at the horse not the many things the rider is doing wrong. Once he is not being strangled CE rolls along fine down the rail looking balanced and straight moving. Tires in the last 0.5f. Smaller type and a bit compact and limited by that but a clean mover and looking uncomplicated if lacking some power. Low 60s? Fade late here? Lady Wulfruna the 5th Breeze Graduate to run and the first from the Doncaster sale. Bought for £5k privately (but registered with the sales company) after failing to meet her reserve at £9k under the hammer. In the gather portion of the video £5k looks a bit steep. LW small to tiny, short legs and neck, little power and looking 'young' mentally and overall. 40s might be a stretch. Looks better once she gets going and, after jink at times in the 1st 1f she does roll along fine with some Cheap Speed at a low level. But should get overpowered here. Short Video of Canford Kilbey as a yearing on the MPR Website. Smaller Mediuam and a bit narrow. Neck a bit long. But, with some length to the body and seems to have some range and move ok. Picture from same day on Fahey website confirms the longer neck and makes her seem less narrow. The type that could develop ok and keep the loose movement or go gawky and weak middle. Seems 2nd string here with an A5 but check of OR70 usability with the movement making up for a bit of lack of power (?). === Post VRev === Race with an odd recent record. In 2012 won by older Group winner Top Notch Tonto with very little worthwhile behind. In 2013 won by 2yo Group 2 winner Supplicant with nothing behind. In 2014 won a ready Conditions type 2yo from Mattmu who won a French Group 2 as a 2yo and just touched off in a Group 2 6f at 3yo against older horses while writing this. In behind was Izzthatright who was claimed by Fahey who won a Listed race with him. A lot of Nursery winners behind in 2014. A big field here in 2015 and some Open Maiden possibles but any better ones? Lathom ridden confidently and travelled best in the race. Neat type and just middling build and looking upper 70s & leak 80s rather than a better class one. General Alexander a good effort from a wide draw and staying on better than Lathom at the line having shown less of a kick. Another perhaps just middling build one and a bit below 75 possibly. Looking at the picture from That'll Happen before the race and wondered if he had been under-rated. Front heavy but strong in front and that showed up here running alongside Lathoum. Shorter than that one but bulkier in front. Set a Stop/Start pace and having been settled in the lead the horse pricked his ears over the intersection and took off with the Jk. Hard ridden to hold onto 3rd. Movement looked ok on this uphill track. Perhaps make him 60s not 50s. If there is a better one hidden away in the field then Bathos the best candidate. A taller 2yo and looked out-of-place amongst early 5f types FTO and the same here. Still too clueless to keep up and ended up well back. Staying on well relatively late on. Seems to be a MaJo one that is running int he wrong races. Needs further and to develop more mentally but ok for 80+ and probably the best long-term prospect in the field. Chief Entertainer looking neat and ready but a bit on the smaller side in this field and not staying this stiffer 5f. Usable 60s but a bit Size Limited. Canford Kilbey in the Widest stall and a real disadvantage. Showed enough pace to get involved and respond to the pace changes mostly. Looking like the notes made pre-race and usable 60s. Flying Pursuit getting too rough a path through the race to judge. Check STO and should be usable 60s. Why would a little one like Lady Wulfruna be at a short SP? Stall 1 is a big aid but the horsepower still needs to be there. Too slow a start to use the draw anyway. Ok low level plugging on and usable at some level but small. Mr Lucas looking ok bulk in this field. No show first two runs and got involved here having been given a 'Bad Horse' ride as if his attitude a problem. Solid fade last 1f or packed-it-in, or both. More build than his rating so far but trainer no record with 2yos. No particular interest in either Tontito or Emerald Asset given the trainers and hard to judge level her. Pennypot Lane showing some low level promise given the problems she had and made in the race run. Usable 50s at all? Check development. |
