=== Pre Race ===

Interesting Breeze Video for Areen who cost 85k at Tattersall's Premier Breeze and the 1st graduate of the sale to run. Video starts with Areen already into the last 2f (yellow post marker) and already up to speed and a fast starter. Starts the Breeze on the Far Rail and drifts left throughout the 2f. About 2/3rds of the way to the Stands' Rail into the last 1f and changed lead and then veers left over the markers in the turf and a whip slap from the rider. How do the timers of breezes account for the extra distance and time lost though getting unbalanced?

Areen by Kodiac and we are knee deep in 2yos by him because of his reputation for getting fast types. Areen looking shorter but a broader body than a typical 'Bear' and a bit more length. Shows a fast action with some pound in front. Apart from going diagonally he seems to rattle along fine and still going forward at the finish. Used the range he has and ok strong. Looks fine for 80+ as a 5f type. Frank riding on debut which limits his chances of winning if his fast pace looks a good standard forward effort at 2f out in this group. Starting it from last place having lost ground at the start having been confused by Spencer's signals requesting a 'Flop Start' seem likely to give him too much to do.

Fahey quote from his SL piece = "We run Black Magic who pleased me when winning on debut at Pontefract and has pleased me at home since. This is a sharper five furlongs which I’m not sure will suit as he’ll stay six furlongs but if he can hang onto them through the race you never know.".

==== Post Race ===

[May 28th] Stalls Far side but field ending up racing across centre line and well spread with Ravenhoe (smallest & sweating) going across there in the lead as held. Dheban tallest and also running too free and racing alone across to Cent-FrSd after 2f still held. Other pair 3-4L back with Areen breaking fine but then hauled back in stages to sit last with Frank. One of those races where the Race Shape outside his control happens to interact ok with what he is doing by rote.

running willingly and setting a solid marker and responding until into the last 0.5f. Black Magic niggled along before 2f out and unable to close the 3L back to the leading pair and looking a bit head up and lacking basic pace (handling ground?). Dheban, taller & narrower and unable to raise extra pace to get by Ravenhoe, showing a wide action in front and also a bit head up. Changing leads then fading last 0.5, Bit too free, not handling going and perhaps needing 6f?

Areen probably the best mix of size & shape for a 5f sprinter. At least 1 size bigger & bulkier than Ravenhoe all round. Making Dheban look a bit tall & narrow by comparison. Black Magic perhaps matching him for bulk but less neatly made and less smotth mover, especially in front.

Areen looking a strongly built, medium height sprinter. Clean and straight mover and making a comfortable job of closing up to the leader in the CZ then going from 1.5L behind to lead by 0.5f out with some comfort. But, Ravenhoe looking neat and ready type only and presumably had softened himself up (and giving 10lbs away) to set against the visual effect of Areen's move. Areen should rate 90+ but vulnerable to a bigger, well built, type. This written before Areen's STO in a 5f Listed where he is drawn widest of 9 at SDWN with Spencer. Loking at the field in PRev should be interesting in Areen may be the best '5f sprinter' type. But draw 9 should mean he ends upo in rear with Spencer so sill need his later race 'move' to get involved unless the leaders go too hard.
