SUMMARY
G from GF on decs.

Stands Side course.

=== Post Race ===

[May 26th] Stalls stands side and field raced wide spread from rail to centre track. Palenville in Centre track racing widest. Average or slower pace. Cutaway at 2f out to leave field in Cetre to Cent-Stands strip for the 2f sprint at the finish.

Hillside Dream an odd run - driven along before 2f out as if lacking pace then some forward effort but not looking fully balanced and dropping back again to 1f out. Hung left then got balanced in the last, uphill 1f, and staying on into the leading 3 again at the finish. Giving impression a mix of not handling downhill undulation and perhaps needing a longer distance.

Burning Love not really put into the race and allowed to drop to the back in a slower race. Seemed to be going ok into last 2f but a bit blocked by filly in front. Some response when clear into the last 1f until fading late. But, looking on the smaller side in this groups.

[May 29th] Blossomtide an unusually competent debut for Appleby. Professional overall other than perhaps taking a bit of time to realise an extra effort was being asked for at 2f out. Stalling to the line. Medium size in the group. Taller than BMP but less build. Perhaps similar size & build to Palenville

Lady Macapa an NR the previous day with no reason made public. Trainer Knight makes LadyM his 'Bargain Buy' in 215 noting she has a "big back end" and some scope. Presumably well bought at £7k. Trainer's career with 2yos a bit baffling. Started very well and made a good impression in his first 2-3 seasons with good Strike Rates and ready debuts and FTO wins 7 places at long SPs. On the list as an MO to follow then. But, the record with 2yos has stalled and got worse since with a career low in 2014 with 5 x 2yos run and no win. Competitive debuts have disappeared with no FTO win since 2009 and the odd ones to place on debut since have failed to win during the season. Change of focus by stable to 'career development' and 3yo+ strategy. Less funding? Check how LadyM goes here FTO. Any of the old FTO spark?

Trainer Palmer (a template for the type of career progress Knight did not make) upbeat about Fashion Insider in 215 saying the work riders all like her, etc. But, he seemed to think she would not be a Royal Ascot type because of needing time to develop. Saying he saw her being best July onwards. Starting here perhaps suggest a try out to see if she is forward enough to make ASCT?

Villa Bonita the first Godolphin owned 2yo to start with Gosden? John Ferguson signed for her at the Fasig-Tipton sales so not a Gosden buy he passed on. Not in 215.

[June 14th] Rosecomb given a trademark appalling ride on debut by Spencer. Watching it without knowing who was aboard beforehand you would know it could only be Frank (unless Hanagan is taking his impressions of the Frank Style to new heights). Rosecomb breaks ok near the stands rail but then hauled back in stages to be last by halfway. Even worse, Frank then works the filly right to end up being wide out on the track alone (from having been near the stands rail to start with) when the final 2f sprint started. Rosecomb making a middling effort and tiring late and only getting past faders before the typical early ease by Spencer (another, like Dettori & Fallon, who really should only ever be paid 80-90% of the riding fee because they pack in early). Looking smaller medium in the group.

This was the write up about Rosecomb's debut run on the Bell website = "On Friday ROSECOMB was making her racecourse debut. She was trying six furlongs and Jamie felt that she needed further. She will certainly come on for the run and over further I am sure she we will be seen to better effect. We know she has ability".

[July 19th] Broadway Melody talked up by trainer's rep in 215. Saying she was more a later season typr for 7-8f. You would wonder whether this early 6f debut a trial to see how good and forward she might be. Looking a taller & bigger type in the group. Bigger than the first 2 home for eg. Running a bit free to halfway with no cover then niggled along before 2f out as the pace started to wind. Earlier stall & fade than average but free running some excuse. BM running over 7f STO of a 2 month+ break. That could fit a story of a likeable filly they wanted to try early but found she was too weak and not forward enough to press on with then. Put her away and let her develop then restart again with 'Plan A' which always was as a solid 7f+ prospect.
