SUMMARY
Median Auction maiden that placed a limit on the sires represented. Even with that noted a poor/moderate field on profile. The season so far seems to have lacked strong performances and real longer term useful 2yos. No Channon, 1 x duff one from Evans & a couple of Auction race types from Fahey. MaJo has probably shown us the best seen in line with his larger 2yo string in 2015 and focussing on getting them ready during the winter.

This Field on Profile a race that any one of the 5 could win and a game of Equine Musical Chairs. Not a race to be backing/laying on until you have seen the horses in the prelims because such a low level performance might be needed to win. If a limited (low 50s ab) filly like Lingfield Lass is 9/4 in the AM and a 3/1 SP then a race where a horse at 25/1 should be as big as a labrador (which Priory isn't).

The race played out in line with the 'Musical Chairs' take and you could make a case for 3.5 of the 5 runners being the likely winner at various points during the race. Ojai steaming off in front and showing ok pace at her level and put the others under pressure through some mix of their inexperience & natural pace. But, Ojai going 3L clear and going to fast and folded in the last 1f to be overhauled by a variety of 'Closing' types. Fast condtions on the day and a slow Final Time in line with a horse 6L back at halfway only 1L back at the finish (having Railed well and going the shortest distance).

Another race to tick off and still looking for an obviously strong performance. The first 5 races in 2015 saw wins for Group placed Cock Of The North, top rated 2yo Tiggy Wiggy, Listed winner Patience Alexander and a clear win in this race for David Evans' Cheerio Sweetie (with two claimer winners behind and the two Dascombe season winners in the decs). Nothing like the Dascombe pair here and a thin edition. Go back to back to 2013 and a Stan Moore STO (no reps from him yet in 2015 although a Brocklesby entry for him won a weak race in France instead) won with a Dascombe season winner in 2nd and a seller winner further behind (who developed well to be OR70s). Go back to the first LNGA race in 2012 and 5 runners of whom the winner (Bill Turner) won again at Claiming level (typical Bill) and the rest were Garbage. This edition a bit better than that.

A couple of points to keep reminding yourself about when checking the Video/Race - firstly dont place too much belief on how the 5 horses performed relative to each other - keep the absolute form level in view. Secondly given the poor standard hard to say the race sets any standards for a 'Trainer MO'. Wins by default rather then fine tuned preparation, for example.

Priory a smaller filly but ok Size in this group and ok build in context if still up behind. Trainer Eddery has shown he can get debut winners but in later season with a hard trained Seller winner. Priory above average for nous in the race and by being held back at the start got into the best Closing spot given the stiff Pace. Also ran the wide strip in the HS. Looking willing but does this amount to sold OR50s in real terms? But, another plus for a reliable trainer who's most notable MO has been to win Auction races STO with this type. One of the most interesting things about Priory is what the Hell Eddery is doing owning her? Her dam was an expensive purchase and raced for John Best. Given a typically odd start to her career in the Hilary Needler and never ran again. The owner seemed to stick with her and Best and she went to the sire Mullionmileanhour (trained by Best and having runners by the sire a 'Vanity Project' for him). Why isn't Priory in training with Best while the one he trained by the same sire finished last?

Hannon jnr. has not shown us a really good one yet and on Profile Ower Fly unlikely to be one given he was retained for £1,000 as a yearling. But, the dam won into the OR60s (5f 2yo) and two sibling have as well including one retained for £400. Add in that the Hannons have a terrific record of getting wins with the cheapest one they get, plus the early debut, and you would expect an OR60s one they will win with and might be the 'Class' of this field. Ridden by KT O'Neill presumably a further hint of a usable one but nothing extra. Ran well in the context of the race and pace. Just knowing enough to sit 2nd but lacking the zip of Ojai on the bend to the hs. But, head down and stuck at in the HS to challenge around 0.5f out but stalling a bit earlier than the winner given sitting near the pace. Solid effort and seems obviously usable OR60s and if the Hannons cannot win with him then noone else would.

When MaJo won the first 3 races of the season the question offerred was whether he had become Jack Berry/Bryan McMahon of perhaps the 3 wins owed much to circumstances (a sub-Perfect Storm of environmental factors). His 3 x debuts since have finished 3rd-4th-3rd at SPs between 13/8 & 2/1. Rogues' Gallery a sibling to four x Owner breds trained by MaJo out of a staying dam. Only 1 of the 4 has won and the other mainly ran at 8-9f at 2yos, 1 started at 7f. OR50s form for the others who tended to be ok tall but narrow with it. RG starting at 5f early season suggesting sire Fast Company has got something different physically. RG prob the Tallest in this group but a touch narrow. Too green to get involved and around 6L back at times which was helpful to him given the way the Pacemakers folded back. Railed well to the HS and seemed to make the best effort of the 5 before 1f out to make some ground back. Briefly looked as if he might challenge to win as he stayed on down the Far Rail but faded back a bit late. Another where you look at the ground he made and want to mark him up but what about the quality/circumstances? Has an ok chance to be usable 60s and be the best foal so far.

The SPs for the two fillies' on STO are interesting in that the Market seemed to take the finishing positions FTO when they ran in the same race at face value. On PRev and marking her up for the suicidal effort on the bend Ojai was at least as talented as Lingfield Lass & perhaps better. Showed the most zip here and going too strongly in the lead at 2-3L clear most of the first 3.5f. When she was clear into the HS then a possible winner. Still 1L+ clear into the last 1f but faded notably last 0.5f. Another example of where you have to judge the zip she showed compared to what was going on behind (& times) and not on the Visual effect. Probably OR50s but might get OR60+ and might win a weak fillies' race early on but always vulnerable to anything a bit bigger. Especially if she doesn't see out the 5f.

Lingfield Lass looking lower to mid OR50s ab FTO and seemed to confirm that here. Able to sit 3rd to halfway but struggling for pace on the downhill stretch to the bend and then hung a bit right on the bend. No real sign of a recovery in the hS and no interest.
