- Handed in his licence in early 2008 and became an assistant at owner G. MacDowall's yard where he had previously been the salaried trainer. Now assists L. A. Perratt at the yard. Had wanted to take a break from the pressures of training and the issues surrounding a Public Liability claim against him.
- Thoroughbred horses are classed as wild animals in Britain and the person in charge of them liable for any injury or damage they cause. One of his runners had kicked another stable's handler in the head in the parade ring causing serious injury. The claim against him was continuing.
- Returned to training at his previous yard in mid-2009 with Linda Perratt unsuccessful in the role at the Mr. McDowall owned yard. The Liability claim had been settled.
- No runners in his name in 2010. Reappeared with a licence in 2011 and operating from the 'Burnwynd Stables' with 22 boxes according to the BHA records. Keith Dalgleish is currently at MacDowall's Belstane Stables where Semple had worked. But, the Burnwynd set-up is in Carluke where the Belstane yard also is so presumably still some connection. First 2yo runner in 2011 part owned by 'Belstane Park Racing'.
