Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 14th: Thirsk
5f Novice
  • Withdrawn from the Doncaster St Leger sales.
  • Good sire tends to get 2yos that are physically very similar although often slightly small, compact, heavy & strong build and not particularly taking.
  • Sire had a remarkably good 2004 both for number of winners and quality and possibly reflecting the better mares he got after his good start at stud. He has a good record in getting 5f winners although better from May onwards.
  • Sire has only had one runner so far in 2005.
  • Dam was related to a good 2yo and showed hints of form in a brief career and possibly not particularly willing. She produced 5 winners with here first five foals including two at 2yo. Here two foal sine 1998 have been moderate runners.
  • Trainer has a small number of 2yo runners each season made up of relatively cheap buys (up to 10k gns) and owner bred horses (including those he has bred himself).
  • The overall low to moderate quality of most runners makes it difficult to assess patterns. However, notable for poor level of debut runs within the 2yo's ability including those at shorter SPs.
  • Runners with ability tend to show above average improvement STO (around 15-20lbs) and at their best either STO or 3TO. No wins after 3TO in the period 2002-4.
  • In summary respect for the sire always makes one feel uncomfortable in writing off a 2yo but should be uncompetitive in this race.  Profile [40]
  • June 15th: York
    5f Group 2 Fillies'
  • 14/1 at Thirsk in a moderate fillies Novice run at a strong pace which had most of the field tired and struggling in the last furlong. Broke right handed and got well off the pace and still more than 3L back at halfway. Good progree inside 2f out and led inside the final furlong and ran close to the stands' rail. Lokked a typical smaller type of the sire. Estimate [68]
  • Trainer has not had a runner in the race and this filly made a rare debut win for him. Solid improvement.  Profile [79]
