Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 12th: York
6f Maiden
  • Owner bred by Maktoum Al Maktoum.
  • Sire has a poor record with 2yos and 2003-4 were moderate for both number of winners and quality. He has not had a 5f 2yo winner in Britain and has not had a 6f winner here in the last two seasons. He has only had one winner before the end of May.
  • Sire has had two runners placed second over 5f in 2005.
  • The dam was a good quality 7-12f winner. She has produced three winners from six previous foals. The best of these was her first foal in 1994 and her runners since have been of lesser quality.
  • Major trainer does not target strong debuts and only the very best win FTO. He has had a slightly slow start to 2005 with only one winner (STO) to date. He has lacked the better quality earlier runners in the last three seasons.
  • He has had a winner along with second and fourth places from three runners in the race in 2002-4, two were on their second runs. These have all been at least useful+ quality 2yos.
  • In summary a mixed story. The pedigree would suggest an average maiden winner who might develop a little further over 7f+. The trainer usually chooses better types to debut at this meeting, especially in this race. He did run the average Adoration in the 5f maiden at the meeting in 2004. The start made by the trainer might suggest this is the best he has ready at this stage. However, unlikely to be the superior 2yo he would probably need to be to win .  Profile [70]
  • May 24th: Ripon
    5f Maiden
  • Trainer's wife quotes pre-race = "Very professional at home"; "Done some nice work"; "Going well compared to the others [6f+ 2yos] so will give us a guide".
  • Opened 2/1f but drifted to 3/1. Looked typical trainer preferred 2yo. Just over medium with a heavy build, in proportion, deep through and mature. Carried himself well. Drawn 1 with the stalls in the centre of the course on soft ground. Broke ok but then lost a length on the pick-up. However, he then took off and ran notably freely and was 2L clear at the end of the first furlong. He drifted slightly left as the rest of the field went right and grouped together leaving him well isolated. Probably more than 3L clear at halfway but spent but just inside 2F out fading and then eased in the last furlong. Estimate [13]
  • Drops back to 5f after running much too freely over 6f last time. On pedigree 5f is unlikely to be his best distance but he has elements of a sprinter build. Ought to show improvement here but would be vulnerable to a strong 5f type.  Profile [76]
  • June 1st: Newcastle
    5f Maiden
  • Drifted to 11/4jf at Ripon in a race run on softening ground after rain during the day and the previous night. Field split into two groups and he led the far side throughout but was a length down on the stands' side group at halfway. Kept on ok but hung left in the final furlong after coming down the 'ramp'. First home on his side but a length behind the leader next to the stands' rail. Possibly a minor advantage on the stands side but overall the group finished in a believable order.  Estimate [70]
  • Has changed from being the stable's preferred '6f prospect' to struggling to break his 5f maiden in less than 3 weeks. Looking at his pedigree it is hard to believe that 5f is the right distance for him. Can improve a little for being able to race in a group and possibly for better ground but looks vulnerable to a real 5f type.  Profile [76]
