Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 1st: Hamilton
5f Maiden
  • Made high price at the Keeneland September sales. Now owned by Maktoum Al Maktoum.
  • Good sire has good record with UK raced 2yos. Gets winners at all distances although only occasionally at 5f. Wins tend to start from May onwards but worth noting that most of his previous 2yos have been with 'bigger' stables (the Dunlops, Stoute etc.) who don't start with 2yos until later in the season.
  • Sire has had one moderate debut runner in 2005.
  • The dam was bred by the Niarchos family and well related. She was a superior sprint 2yo who showed slightly lesser form at 3yo. She has produced similar types at best.
  • Major trainer has had debut runners more forward in 2003-4 but only the best 2yos tend to win on debut. He has had five debuts so far in 2005 and only one has placed (on soft ground in a moderate race and failed on firmer ground STO).
  • His debut runners in the first half of May 2002-4 have been a wide variety of abilities. Only 2 of the 18 have won FTO. The better types to have debuted in this period have usually been useful to superior types and he tends to bring out the best 2yos he has from York in mid-May onwards.
  • The trainer had the beaten favourite in this race in 2002 with the useful+ Royal Beacon and ran the moderate Dunlea Dancer the next year.
  • This runner was entered for the Newmarket Class 4 maiden on the same day but runs here instead.
  • In summary a very good pedigree to be a useful to superior 2yo although better for 6f+ and some development. The relatively early debut suggests he has shown natural ability although he will not have been fully assessed. He will need to be useful to superior to win here on debut.  Profile [69]
  • May 25th: Ripon
    6f Maiden
  • 11/2 third favourite on debut and just a moderate to average run. Tracked a moderate pace on the downhill section and 1.5L off the leader at halfway. The race bunched up 2f out uphill and switched left to fin a gap. Not quicken and just keep on in the last furlong to be slightly closing but not showing 5f pace.  Estimate [60]
  • FTO form is just moderate with the I. Semple trained 3rd and 4th who he finished with well beaten in better or similar races since. Steps up to 6f which looks suitable on his first run.
  • Only trainer 2yo entered for the 6f Conditions race at Pontefract in 3 days but runs here instead.  Profile [74]
  • June 3rd: Haydock
    6f Maiden
  • Non runner at Ripon and runs here 8 days later. Slightly upgrade profile. [75]
