Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 13th: Hamilton
6f Maiden
  • Made a good price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales.
  • Good sire has just an average record with 2yos and they tend to be better for development from mid-season. The wins usually start from late June onwards and over 7f+. He has not had a 6f winner in the last two seasons. This is his first runner of the season.
  • The dam won at 2yo to 5yo and was a Grade 3 winner over middle distances at an older age. Her previous foal was a very poor athlete.
  • Major trainer does not target strong debuts and only the very best win FTO. He has had a slightly slow start to 2005 with only one winner (STO) to date. He has lacked the better quality earlier runners in the last three seasons.
  • The stable is in the period when they are ranking their longer distance 2yos. The stable chose to run Desert Realm in the important York maiden yesterday and he opened favourite but ran too freely and a poor result. In the three weeks following this date in 2004 he introduced a variety of 2yos including the better quality Hearthstead Wings & Leo's Lucky Star who both won on debut.
  • In summary a likeable pedigree but probably better for 7f+. The 6f debut suggests he probably at least useful and will develop further. However, he will need to be better than useful to win in a tough edition of the race.  Profile [67]
  • May 26th: Ayr
    6f Maiden
  • Opened 16/1 & finished 14/1 on debut at Hamilton in a tough race with an average pace early which quickened through halfway. Well drawn and an ok break. Settled in 3rd on the far rail at the end of the first furlong he was outpaced in 6th at halfway at 2L+ off the leaders. Faded from there to remote 7th as the better types pressed on.  Estimate [35]
  • At 14/1 he was the longest debut SP for his trainer this year. 9 of the 12 have started at 11/2 or shorter (one win at 11/2) and two other moderate types needing further have started at 9/1 & 10/1. His trainer's runners can be inexperienced but he just looked not good enough to go with the pace at halfway. Was with Hits Only Jude (3TO) who he meets again here just before halfway but lost 10L to him in the last 3F.
  • The trainer has used this race (and other 6f races here at the same meeting) to introduce better types and won it in 2003 with the STO Think Tank (who had run a good place on debut). Difficult to see great improvement given the overall profile and the lack of promise FTO.  Profile [54]
