Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 29th: Musselburgh
5f Maiden
  • Retained for high price at Tattersalls part 1 sales. Owned by the Holdcrofts who own Bearstone Stud where both Primo Valentino and Mind Games stand. They have presumably kept this filly to add to their broodmare stock. Her dam won the Queen Mary for them
  • By First Season Sire who made early 5f debut as a 2yo and developed through the season at 6f. Made moderate to average impression at sales.
  • B2yoR rated 9 of the sire's yearlings and notable for smaller, slightly light build types. None were rated over 70 including several which cost much more than this one.
  • Sire has had three poor to moderate runners so far.
  • Dam was a very useful and precocious 5f 2yo and won the Group 3 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She did not progress from there. Her half sister Romantic Liason won the same race two years later.
  • Trainer does not target strong debuts and has made a slow start to the season. There were signs he was starting to run his better types with four fillies running six days ago and one 'accidental' debut win.  Two of his eleven debuts so far have placed.
  • In summary a good pedigree with 'sprint 2yo' woven into it. However it is unproven at present and the sales price was high but not 'exciting' given the prices at the sales for well bred fillies. The trainer does not target strong debuts but you have to think he will be trying hard to make a good debut with this one. The dam won FTO for him and the important owners are probably keener than he is for her to do well if she has ability. They will presumably want her to run in Listed+ races like the Hilary Needler so will want a promising debut at worst (to give time for a maiden win somewhere if necessary before the better races in June onwards.  Profile [61 + 5 = 66]
  • April 29th: Musselburgh
    Post Race
  • ran for a trainer who does not target strong debuts but given who she is you would expect she would be ready to place at least. In a steady market she was 11/2 second favourite behind an odds-on M Johnston runner.
  • She looked smallish (similar size to Memphis Man) and compact but with ok depth and build for her size. She looked to have a faster action and without showing better stretch and reach in the later stages of the race. Given a relatively tender ride (especially compared to the first and fourth) and only hands-and-heels later stages (just enough to ensure she kept 2nd).
  • Broke well and shared the pacemaking with Hillbilly Cat and travelled well enough. Headed towards the last 1f and the hard ridden Memphis Man showed more reach to go by and slowly pull away. A moderate level of form and just middling by trainer FTO standards. Looked to be a smaller, fast actioned sprinter and probably limited by her size. May be able to rate 70+ early but not one to follow on this and always vulnerable to bigger and/or better types. Presume she'll try to break her maiden in a small race before trying Listed company, perhaps in the Hilary Needler. Estimate [52]
  • May 14th: Thirsk
    5f Novice
  • The trainer has won the race twice in three years with fillies that went on to win the Hilary Needler including On The Brink for the same owners. Is she here because she's good enough or because she 'has to be' given her breeding an attendant requirements?
  • He debut form is moderate and she should be able to get to highish 60s here. Profile [68]
  • May 24th: Ripon
    5f Maiden
  • 4/1 at Thirsk and prominent early. Outpaced 2F out and slightly faded.  Estimate [52]
  • Has looked small and probably limited. Trainer tends to use this race for a better type but runs two and the newcomer Gallery Girl may be the better of the two.  Profile [57]
  • June 3rd: Thirsk
    5f Maiden
  • 33/1 at Ripon in a race run on rain softened ground with the field splitting into two groups. Ran on the far side which was always a little behind the stands' side group.  Tracked the leader there by 2L until slightly fading from before 1f out.  Estimate [53]
  • Trainer runs two in the race and D Allan rides newcomer colt Bolden and R. Winston this one. No reason to expect improbement.  Profile [54 + 5 = 59]
