RACE SUMMARY

  • Race run on officially 'Good' going along the stands' rail.
  • A solid but not strong pace saw the better types (Red Clubs & Storm On The Run) able to travel comfortably inside the last 2f and look to quicken past the pacemaking pair (Don Peter & Tryandstopme) who look limited.
  • The following tables gives the ratings given to the actual race performances ('Estimate') compared to the Profile ratings assigned before the race. Boxes in green indicate a runner that over-performed in the race against the pre-race profile and in pink one that notably under-performed.

Red Clubs Steady at 6/1 after a slightly inexperienced and uncompetitive debut showing a moderate level of form. A general point to note is that other than Don't Tell Sue the trainer's 2yos have needed the debut run to develop from in 2005. This was his first STO runner of the season and a good improvement. He had run a little freely on debut and showed the same tendency here and the jockey held him up and settled him in 5th behind the solid pace. The jockey was happy to let Storm On The Run cross in front of him from the rails to the outside before halfway to further 'anchor' him.

Travelled well after halfway after responding to pressure around 2f out and the jockey manoeuvred him to the outside to track Storm On The Run. Quickened with that runner as they went past the stalling pacemakers and kept on well to make another length on him in the final uphill furlong and win a comfortably. He can develop further from this to rate 75+.

Storm On The Run Supported from 7/2 to 5/2jf in a moderately strong market. He has been entered in better races previously suggesting the trainer feels he has good ability. He hasn't taken up those earlier entries so the trainer has presumably also felt he needed more time to develop. He has a mixed pedigree and made a good price at the sales considering the quality of his siblings. He appears to have developed well from the sales and carries his bulk much better.

Drawn on the rails and broke well and sat fourth behind the pacemakers. The jockey must have expected to be involved in the finish because he switched him off the rails to sit four wide with a clear run on the outside before halfway. Travelled well relative to the pacemakers inside 2f and went on quite easily as they stalled. Could not respond as he stalled himself inside the final furlong and lost a length to the winner (with a previous run). A good debut by the trainer's standards in terms of professionalism and final rating. Has the build to develop further and appears to move well enough now to use his strength. [He was slightly bigger & notably heavier, especially in front, than Red Clubs]

Tryandstopme Steady around 8/1 5th favourite. Looked fit on her third and a quite well muscled 'little sprinter' with a little length. Slightly short with a deep front but lighter build and still 'up' behind. The bigger point to note is that her attitude looked to limit her a bit, she has a 'mean' demeanour and flashed her tail in the last furlong. She had to be driven throughout at Lingfield and on this evidence that was caused as much by needing to be encouraged as being outpaced.

Broke well and settled 3rd tracking a solid pace. Left in second at halfway less than a length off the pacemaking Don Peter. Plugged on best of the pace from 1f out but easily left behind by the better types. She's capable of a little better than this but needs to improve her attitude.

Don Peter 3TO. Broke second and set the pace one off the rail until Conciliate inside him faded before halfway and went to the rail. Set a solid but not strong pace that the first three all followed quite comfortably. Stalled before 1f out and faded in the last furlong and probably slightly eased. Performed below his previous runs and no obvious excuse. Difficult to see him developing beyond the form he's already shown.

Ajigolo Drifted from 7/4f to 5/2jf as Storm On The Run received some support. He looked an ok size with a solid build and some length. Needed to tighten up and not hard fit. He was loaded last but immediately panicked and started kicking out and the jockey stood on the side bar. A handler got up to hold him and the jockey got back on. He was leant or wedged against the stalls with his back legs splayed as the starter opened the gates quickly after the jockey got back on. Unsurprisingly he made a slow and awkward start and had to be driven early to pick up. He was always off the back in 6th and eased late on. Performed below expectations but with an obvious excuse.

Right Again 33/1 and the trainer's first 2yo runner. Drawn on the outside and broke slowly losing a length and then went right handed to the open side probably losing two more lengths. Off the back of the the group behind a solid pace by 3 lengths after 1f and 6 lengths at halfway. Plugged on in the second half of the race. Ran slightly below expectations but the inexperience at the start could account for that. A moderate debut but not a lost cause and ought to develop with racing by trainer's normal methods.

Conciliate 40/1 outsider. Broke first and assisted in setting a solid pace on the rail but driven and starting to fade before halfway and adrift after 2f out.
