JUNE 11th SUMMING UP
|
A moderate race overall in profile and likely to be a limited number of
later winners as in 2004. Black Charmer made a notably professional
debut by the trainer's standards 7 days ago possibly helped by his breeze
up sales preparation in another stable. He kept on well after attending
the pace which saw a number of front runners fading before the final furlong.
The level of form he produced on debut would be close to winning this race
and moderate improvement leaves him clear on profile.
Carmenero has developed into one of those 'placer' 2yos that
the trainer regularly struggles to break the maiden with. He probably has
little or no improvement and his overall level of form is short of what
Black Charmer ought to be able to produce.
It is possible to say he ran very well last time in a tough Goodwood race
with a good winner and the 4 runners that finished around him have won
or placed since. On the other hand he was on his fourth run there, had
the advantage of sitting off the pace and could still only get to 4th.
In the end, the trainer's record tips the balance and in the long run you
would be better looking elsewhere.
None of the newcomers look strong enough to cope with Black Charmer but
the best of them could place at longer odds. The only filly in the race
- Expensive - is probably the most interesting of them in
the medium term. Her trainer has only just started running his 2yos
and she would need to be useful to compete with the top two on debut.
A small mention for Charles Darwin who has shown moderate
form in two moderate races so far. In the first he was too inexperienced
to show up (unusual for a trainer 2yo) and STO he ran too freely close
to a pace that saw the prominent runners fading in the last furlong. He
gives the impression of not being a lost cause although a step up to 6f
has not necessarily looked what he needs. Learning to settle and using
his basic pace over 5f might be. Either way he's worth keeping an eye on
here for his nursery future.

RACE QUALITY:
|
A new race in 2004 and a large field but mostly free of future winners.
M Johnston's 3TO runner Fiefdom won comfortably and looked quite impressive
but was actually clear of a moderate bunch.

TRAINERS:
|
J Dunlop (Manouche) had a runner in 2004 who was inexperienced and
finished a remote 4th. He showed moderate form over 6f and improved over
8f later but did not win.
Manouche will be the fourth debut for the trainer who started running his
2yos on Friday. The record so far is:
Namoos (Fri) showed inexperience, 3rd at 11/2 from 4/1 Goodwood
Qusoor (Sat) 5th at 28/1, Leicester
Pairumani's Star (Sat) 6th at 40/1, Leicester
