SUMMARY OF APPROACH TO 2YO RACING :-

Swedish and 55yo in 2003. Had been a trainer in Sweden between 1979-89. Moved to the UK in 1999 to float his company on the London Stock Exchange. Semi-retired from his business which manufactures orthopaedic mattresses and pillows (approximately 1,00 employees). Has links to the one from ABBA who is involved in horseracing and generally the stable has more financial resources than the average new trainer.
Took out a licence to train in Britain in 2002 and had his first runner in December of that year. He normally has around 20 horses in training and around 5 are 2yos.
Has run three and then two 2yos in 2003-4 and these have cost 170k, 85k, 80k (two) & 55k gns.
The majority of 2yos have made late season debuts and only run once or twice without showing strong form. In each season the 2yo that won was the earliest debut and ran to at least 4TO.
He seems to have identified his best 2yo type before they run and the debut SP has been some indication of overall ability. In 2003 his useful winner was only 13/2 on debut at Goodwood and won (debuts for non-competitive late season 2yos are 25/1+). In 2004 he had a runner capable of an average nursery win and he was unplaced at 16/1. However he showed good development with racing to win 4TO in his first run in a handicap.
Overall with limited evidence he seems to be a selective and well organised trainer with his 2yos.
