5f Novice |
Made a high price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales and notable given the
poor performance of the dam's previous 5 foals. The trainer ran the sire
and has had success with a variety of his offspring and often buys his
bigger types at the sales - Barbajuan, St Pancras, Fort McHenry, Danehill
Willy, etc.
By a good sire with a notably good 2yo winner to runner record. Sire get
winners at range of distances but solid record at 5-6f and can also get
early runners. Sire can get FTO winners. He has already had three good
5f winners and a good 6f placer in 2005.
Dam was unraced and a half sister to high class sprint 2yo Cyrano De Bergerac
(sire of the best sprint 2yo seen so far in 2005 - Strike Up The Band).
However, she has a notably poor stud record with two placed runners in
the major european countries and one of these managed to win later in Austria.
Veteran trainer targets 2yo racing and has a good record. Notable for having
a plan for most 2yos and being flexible enough to use whatever approach
is needed to give best chance of a win.
Trainer does not target FTO wins although they are usually competent so
the better runners can place or occasionally win on debut. Runners often
10lbs or more below best on debut.
He has had two previous runners in 2005, one has won on 3TO and the other
has placed on S-3TO.
In summary a 2yo with lots of positives if you can assume the dam has finally
managed to produce a 'good one'. Likely to be a development debut in this
toughish Novice rather than one of his targeted debut wins with superior
2yos (which tend to be at maidens at lesser courses). Profile

6f Maiden |
12/1 at Newmarket and given an educational ride. Settled 5th behind an
ordinary pace set by moderate 2yos. Second rank 2L off the lead at halfway.
Unable to quicken with the better 5f runners with previous experience 2F
out but plugged on in the uphill final furlong to 4th. Estimate
[59]
A solid debut by trainer who has settled for targeting stronger STO runs.
Steps up to 6f and has a good base to develop form and a 70+ physical review.
