Made a good price at the Keeneland September sales in the US.
Good, US based, sire was a Grade 1 6f to 9f winner. He gets winners over
all distances including middle distance 3yos. His record with British based
2yos is just average with 4 winners of 4 races from 20 runenrs in the last
three seasons. Three of the wins have been at 7f after mid-season.
Dam was a useful and precocious sprint 2yo for M Bell and won on debut.
She won three of four races at 2yo and placed in the Flying Childers on
the other run. She presumably did not develop strongly from 2yo and ran
creditably but without winning over the next two seasons in handicaps and
Listed races. [How did she end up in the US?]
Second runner of the the season for a younger trainer with a growing stable
size. This is a late start for him and he has not run a better type yet.
His strategy is to to identify the early and natural 2yo types and prepare
them to win on debut or STO. The better types will be stepped up to Conditions+
races. A number of the poor runners and 2yo types will run past 3TO.
Identifies those with natural ability and these will debut early and should
place FTO with the better types competitive for a win on debut. He is a
very good example of a 'Show or nothing' (SON) trainer whereby if his runners
do not place on debut they aren't very good and unlikely to win at 2yo.
Shorter FTO SPs early in season (March to May) are good sign of better
runners which he has identified at home.
In summary a lot of positives to produce a good sprint 2yo with some scope
to dvelop through the season. A good sign he is an early debut for the
trainer and he should be fit and ready on debut. Ought to be a strong competitor
for a place. Profile [75]
