April 28th: Redcar
5f Auction |
Made solid price at the Doncaster St Leger sales. Most expensive colt in
the field.
By second season sire that made an acceptable start with the 2004 2yos.
These included 5f winners out of stout dams for trainers that target 5f
runs. However he did not have any runners until May 2nd and no winner until
May 27 in 2004.
Sire has had a FTO winner and two poor runners so far in 2005.
Dam was a relatively cheap buy and ran only once in late season at 2yo.
She showed useful form over 6f at 3yo.
The trainer has had an increased number of 2yos in 2003-4 and this runner
is at the high end of his normal range of sales price.
He is notable for having his 2yos ready and competent on debut and they
can win northern races at longer SPs because of this. He has already had
a debut winner (backed from 9/1 to 11/2) in 2005 with his only 2yo runner.
In summary a pedigree that could produce a 70+ 5-6f winner and could be
precocious. The trainer is a positive with this type of early debut and
likely to be competent and close to his best. A negative that he is penalised
7lb for his sales price. Profile [70 - 7 = 63]

May 26th: Ayr
6f Maiden |
7/1 joint second favourite on debut at Redcar. Tracked an average pace
by 1.5L at halfway in a race where the placed horses were always reasonably
prominent. Slightly outpaced as the race quickened inside 2f out and just
plugged on for fourth. Estimate [54]
The Redcar 5f race he made his debut in has proved to be moderate and the
rating has been downgraded. The 6th & 7th in the race have been beaten
in sellers & claimers since while the 2nd & 3rd have been beaten
in slightly better races.
Steps up to 6f after a break. Trainer has only run two so far and is usually
quite selective with 2yos although most of the 2yo runners tend to be moderate
non-winners. Unlikely to show great improvement for a trainer with a poor
STO record although minor positive of the sire's record is better from
late May onwards. Profile [62]

June 15th: Hamilton
6f Maiden |
3/1 second favourite at Ayr behind a strongly supported K Ryan newcomer
(won and ran well in the Coventry yesterday). Held up and 3L off an average
pace at halfway. Had to wait to get a gap a furlong from home and pulled
away from the moderate and tired runenrs in the last furlong but no danger
to the winner. Better to assess the form as how far he was ahrad of the
3rd+ rather than saying 'he finished second to Amadeus Wolf' because something
had to and he wasn't competitive with him. Estimate [62]
