Sold for average price at Doncaster St Leger sales.
Reviewed at the sales and slightly small but notably heavily built. Rather
short and not a particularly athletic mover. Needed to grow and develop
to be able to use the strength and build he has. Rated 66 with an average
chance of being a competitive 2yo at his level.
By good sprint sire who can get early runners but better types tend to
have some size and develop through season.
Dam had a mixed pedigree and showed reasonable form over 6-8f on the flat
before being tried over hurdles.
Trainer in his second season training after return from Hong Kong. Previously
had a very good record with 2yos and notable for having runners fit and
competent on debut.
In 2004 the earliest debuts competed well but none won (including those
that were backed). He said he had been caught out by the gallops at Newmarket
compared to Manton (where he trained before going to Hong Kong) and did
not have those early debuts fit enough. The earliest debut runners were
80+ rated winners later in the season.
Trainer has had one owner bred runner in 2005 who was 5th at this meeting
looking competent but not good enough to compete with the better fillies.
In summary the pedigree and sales review of a (just) 70+ sprint 2yo if
he develops well. Had the build to be a little better if he developed well
and this trainer is exactly the right type to get him rated higher with
racing if anyone can. However, on evidence since he returned he has not
been running his best types with his earliest debuts and they are not 'wound-up'.

Post Race |
Trainer's second runner of the season and gave a similar performance to
Adeje Park yesterday. Broke slightly right-handed but closely tracked the
pace makers and travelled ok. He looked the heavily built and strong type
that sales review showed. However, sales review had suggested he lacked
some athleticism and he was outpaced here as the pace quickened despite
travelling well enough. At least part of this seemed to be because he does
not really lengthen his stride and continued with his slightly shorter
action (compared to Puskas for example).
Trainer's first runners in 2005 have shown similar performances to 2004
being competent without threatening to win nor looking above average. This
runner's strength and his early start will allow the trainer to develop
him through the season so he should rate 75+ at some point but probably
not above average. In a race where a number of runners received support
he went from 5/1 to 4/1. Estimate [65]

Steps up to 6f after nearly two months off and the trainer has only had
one runner in the interim from three early debuts in three days.
Trainer had a runner in the 6f race at this meeting in 2004 in his first
season back in Britain. He ran two 2yos on debut in early April in that
year and then had a break until late May and introduced some better 2yos
from this week onwards.
In 2005 he has shown a similar pattern with three debut runs from April
13-15th (one of these won STO on May 2nd) and then a break until one of
those early debuts - Hunter Street - runs here.
The June runners in 2004 all competed quite well with several places but
no winner. He then got into strong form in July with a run of 7 wins from
ten runs from July 1st. He said in interview that he felt he had his early
runners in 2004 less fit than he thought they would be because the Newmarket
gallops were less stiff than the ones he had used at Manton (where he trained
before leaving for Hong Kong). Therefore it will be interesting to see
how his 2yos perform in June this year and whether the 'form wave' starts
a little earlier.
In 2004 the two early debut runners returned after 3 & 4 month breaks
and competed strongly STO (a win and a second).
In summary very interesting to see how he performs after the break as a
indicator of the trainer's method in 2005. His debut form is ordinary and
probably slightly overrated and the lack of athleticism is a niggle. On
the plus side his trainer seems able to get all sorts of 2yos rated 80+
that others wouldn't. Solid improvement but not one to back at a shorter
SP. Estimate [72]

Post Race |
Opened 15/8f with a debut filly from E Dunlop (who had been WD previously).
Support to 6/4f before she was withdrawn at post (again). Looked much more
professional and travelled well with a solid pace. Went on from inside
2f out and went clear. Again showed a fastish but slightly scratchy action
if front. Not tested here to beat Soft Gold who already has his limits
as a 50s rater astablished.
