April 13th: Declared for
Beverley 5f Auction |
Sold for solid price at the Doncaster St Leger sales. A long way above
the average price for his sire.
Reviewed at the sales and was rated 69 with a well above average chance
of being a competitive 2yo. He was smallish but well built and strong.
He lacked quality but had the advantage of being mature enough to compete
in early season so a good sign to see him here in mid-April.
Sire gets few opportunities but can produce early 5f winners, some a average
or above (e.g. Willhewiz). Has already had a 5f debut seller winner in
2005.
Dam was a cheap buy but rated in the 70s both at 2yo and 3yo. Has produced
a 60s rated 2yo winner with her previous foal.
Trainer targets 2yo racing. His very earliest debuts tend to include around
4 winners (some useful) out of 5. A longer SP (16/1+) would be a negative.
He does not target FTO wins and most debuts are well below final rating.
He has had two similar debut runs in 2005 which fir this pattern.
In summary the pedigree and the sales review to be a competitive sprint
2yo rating between 65-74. Unlikely to be ready to win on debut but would
like to see a first 5-6 placing and promise. Penalised 4lb for sales price.

May 11th: Newcastle
6f Maiden |
20/1 and given a quiet ride from stall 1 at Beverley. More than 6 lengths
off a solid pace on debut and plugged on to get 6th without getting into
the race. Estimate [56]
Steps up to 6f and runs in a race the trainer has used for disappointing
2yos in the last three seasons. Mixed messages but on sales review he ought
to be able to show improvement to rate in the 60s. Profile [65]

Drops back to 5f on a stiff course after setting a good pace at Newcastle
over 6f and being picked off by a bigger type late on. 7/4f at Newcasle
