April 23rd: Ripon
5f Auction Fillies' |
Sold for solid price at Doncaster St Leger Sales
Reviewed at the sales and was just under medium size but with a heavy build.
She was slightly leggy but notably mature. She was seen as likely to be
able to rate around 70 as a 2yo.
Third season sire made excellent start in 2003 with 2yos with a lot of
winners and plenty of quality. 2004 was a real step back with less
runners and just 7 average to moderate winners. 2005 likely to be closer
to 2004 than 2003.
Sire ok for 5f but winners tend to be from May onwards and has a poor debut
win record.
Dam has 8f+ pedigree and was unraced.
Trainer targets 2yo racing but not target FTO wins and most debuts are
well below final rating. He has had five debut runs in 2005 which fit this
pattern.
Trainer runs two in this race and both are on debut. This one is the first
string on jockeys. Interesting to note that he also runs two fillies on
debut in the Haydock maiden fillies' race today. His main jockey is at
this meeting.
In summary a mixed pedigree but ok to be the 70ish sprint 2yo she appeared
at the sales. Likely to be well below that on trainer method on debut.
Joint topweight filly in this auction with a 6lb range. Profile [56]

May 21st: Haydock
6f Fillies' Maiden |
11/1 on debut at Ripon in a race on soft with a good pace. Broke slightly
slowly and never got close to the pacemakers but plugged on for a volunteer
second behind a 5L winner. Estimate [46]
Given a months break and steps to 6f. Trainer is going through a period
when a number of earlier debuts are making STO runs and most showing some
improvment and the better ones getting some support. Debut runs looks better/worse
depending the direction you approach. The 5L winner has won twice since
including a Listed race but she wasn't very close to her. The fillies she
finished in front of have looked moderate.
Has the physical review to improve to a good level here. Profile

June 1st: Beverley
5f Listed Fillies |
7/2 at Haydock and broke well and set a solid pace. A length clear at halfway
and then made an effort inside 2F out and kept on in the final furlong.
Hung a little left and just headed by necome Dhekraa late on.
Estimate [72]
Trainer runs two and she is better drawn in 7 and D Allan rides. Moderate
improvement. Profile [77 + 3 = 80]
