Redcar 5f Maiden |
Solid price for DSL sales. Reviewed at sales and ok size, build and athletic
walker. Seen as a neat, early, little-medium sprinter with a bit of scope.
Rated 72 for early season.
First season sire made 6f May debut at 2yo and superior 6-7f runner. Made
solid impression at the sales and yearlings sold well. B2yoR rated 32 of
his yearlings and they were a solid group if lacking real stars.
Older dam was sprint 2yo winner but has a patchy record as a producer and
has got only one winner since her 1996 foal which is a niggle.
Trainer targets 2yo racing and this is his first entry of the season.
His very earliest debuts tend to include around 4 winners (some useful)
out of 5. A longer SP (16/1+) would be a negative.
Trainer had two runners in this race in 2004 and in line with his 'development'
debut run approach neither was competitive for a win.
In summary an interesting 2yo with mostly positives. Unlikely to be ready
enough to win on debut but you would like to see a forward showing and
promise for future win. Profile [55]

Nottingham 5f Maiden |
Declared for the Redcar race but the meeting was abandoned. Worth noting
that two other runners who were declared for that race have run in the
last fours days resulting in one win and one second place. What effect
does the two week break from being 'ready for debut' have, if any?
Trainer has had one debut runner since who produced a fairly standard trainer
debut run. Not ready enough to get into the race but at least keeping on
at the end of the race. Probably similar here. Profile [55]

Post Race |
Drifted from 22/1 to 33/1 but showed some promise by trainer standards.
Travelled ok behind the pacemakers and looked more professional than average
for an early debut from the stable. Was able to make some progress as the
leaders stalled but was slightly hampered. Got tired in the last furlong
but typical for trainer runner. Did enough in a slow race to carry on tracking
for 70+ ability. Estimate [51]

This is the trainers first runner in 2005 to run STO. Trainer's STO record
is variable so this run may be an indicator of what to expect this season.
Expect solid improvement. Profile [65]

Post Race |
Ran his second poor race at the course. Attended the pace this time and
within a neck of an average pace at halfway. Got quickly outpaced and became
unbalanced as the race quickened inside 2f out. Drifted left hand away
from rail and a possible slight disadvantage. Ran to a lower level of form
at the 7/1 second favourite. Estimate [42]

Has proved disappointing in two runs and a bad sign in retrospect he started
at 33/1 on debut. The trainer's 2yos usually show a good part of their
ability by their second run and he's shown little.
If you were looking for excuses you might say he's run on sticky ground
twice and might improve for drier going. His first season sire had a range
of early runners but the wins have only started in the last 10 days so
perhaps his 2yos need a little more time to develop. But, while not scraping
the barrel with a 2yo after two runs, these feel like they are being too
generous.
On sales review he looked like a ready, early 2yo and he's run early but
looks more limited than his sales appearance suggested. It would be unusual
for a sprint 2yo with this trainer to suddenly reveal better form so we
may have seen what he is. Topweight colt in this auction race penalised
6lb. Profile [59 - 6 = 53]
