Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 7th: Beverley
5f Maiden
  • Made middling price at Goffs sales.
  • By First Season Sire that won over 6f in first half of its 2yo season. Sire made good impression at sales and likely to get some early sprint winners.
  • The sire has has made a solid start with two 5f winners in slow races early on. He has a number of moderate types make their debuts since and one of the early debut runners returned to win a maiden at Chester this week.
  • The dam was owned by Hamdam Al Maktoum but has been culled. She was an average 7f 2yo but has not produced a flat winner with 5 previous foals.
  • Trainer does not target strong debuts and FTO wins are rare. He has had one win and two places from 15 debuts in 2005. The debut win was at 20/1 in a race where the odds-on favourite 'failed'.
  • Trainer runs two in this race and neither is well drawn. This one maybe the second string on jockeys.
  • In summary the sire is a positive but the dam's record a notable negative. The sales price suggests a solid physical type but unlikely to be competitive on debut unless it is a weak to poor race.  Profile [49]
  • May 19th: Newcastle
    5f Novice
  • Drawn 6 of 13 at Beverley and 40/1 with the stable's other runner at 33/1. The race was run in a rainstorm and probably with easing ground. The race also featured a good pace and probably too strong for the class of 2yo. These factors combined to produce a messy race where three of the first four places were runners off the pace and finishing up the centre of the course (a usual sign that the 'pace' has collapsed).
  • Broke ok but showed a little inexperience and a slightly slow pick up and settled in midfield (not a problem given the pace). Over 4L off the pacemakers at halfway and still in 6th and 2L behind at 1F out but the leaders then faded and he went on chasing the winner who had a similar passage through the race. A slow time and probably moderate form.  Estimate [45]
  • Looked a typical type of his sire at Beverley -smallish but with a good build. Probably ran a typical trainer debut there despite his more forward showing in 2nd place. The trainer's other FTO runner from that race showed ok improvement when she ran in a maiden fillies' race two days ago. The trainer ran only two 2yos in Novice races STO in 2005 and both were beaten (11/4 & 28/1).
  • In summary he should improve close to his best rating here and although at a low level his debut run was a solid effort by the trainer's standards. Profile [65 + 7 = 72]
