5f Maiden Fillies' |
Cost lowish price at Doncaster sales but well above basement level. Made
similar price to her dam and her latest half sister who rate 51 and 61
at best.
Was small and lightly built at the sales (smaller than either Beautiful
South & Hasty Passion for example). She was neat enough and unremarkable
otherwise but always likely to be limited by her size.
Third season sire had good start with 2yos in 2003 but less good in 2004.
He gets 5f winners but they tend to be from May onwards.
Dam showed moderate form from 6f to 10f and has produced a selling level
7f 2yo winner.
The trainer has had an increased number of 2yos in 2003-4 and this runner
is in the middle of his normal range of sales price.
He is notable for having his 2yos ready and competent on debut and they
can win northern races at longer SPs because of this. He had the 14/1 winner
of this race in 2004 with a filly that rated 60 on debut and 65 at best
(despite here ridiculous Official Rating of 80).
In summary she has 60-64 rated sprint 2yo stamped all over her and has
very little scope to develop. However she is likely to be ready to run
to that level on debut and if she can handle the ground that may not be
far off winning in what is a moderate race on profile. Profile

Post Race |
The trainer was interviewed after the race and said - "She had been working
well at home..... we were worried by the ground (soft) but I said to the
owner that we couldn't run away from a race this poor...if she didn't go
on the ground then we'd just take her somewhere else."
The interview confirmed that the trainer assesses his 2yos at home and
knows how good they are before they run. It also showed he knows how to
judge a race and he knew that this race was 'easy' for her.
Ridden by a 3lb apprentice she just had to be professional to set the pace
on the rail and left clear in the last 1 furlong as the closest chaser
lost her action. Race run in a notably slow time. Profile [61]

5f Novice |
Did not show 5f pace to win in soft ground on a stiff track on debut. An
entirely different test to this race.
Trainers runners tend to be close to their final rating on debut and her
FTO rating fits in with the level expected of her on sales review. Minor
improvement here. Penalised 6lb for her win and would give 1lb to a newcomer
colt. Profile [65 - 1 = 64]
