April 14th: Ripon
5f Maiden |
Sold for good price at Doncaster St Leger sales.
Good sire has average record with 2yos and can get 5f winners including
in early season. Has moderate record with FTO winners and only the useful+
2yos Attraction (fro this trainer) and Imperial Sound have won on debut
for him in 2003-4.
Dam is well bred and got into the select Tattersalls Houghton sales as
a yearling but made a disappointing 30k gns considering that was the 'de
luxe' sale. She was a just above average winner.
The trainer does not target FTO wins and although his FTO runners have
been more competent in 2003-4 only the very best types tend to win.
Trainer has debuted eleven 2yos in April in 2003-4 and all have been later
winners, the majority average or better. Only the superior 2yos Attraction
and Joseph Henry have won on debut from that group.
He has had two FTO runners in 2005 who both were prominent for 3f+ before
fading and not untypical trainer debuts. One of those runners has improved
to win a moderate race STO.
In summary a good pedigree that could well produce an average+ winner.
The fact that the trainer has chosen him for an early debut suggests that
this may well be the case. However the usual caveat applies with the trainer
that only the very best 2yos win on debut. The SPs of his runners can be
a mixed indicator of their chances in these northern maidens. A runner
to watch for development. Profile [62]

Post Race |
7/2 second favourite and made a reasonably solid debut in testing round
which saw others run disappointingly. Tracked the pacemaker for 2 lengths
at halfway and then faded but kept on reasonably for second. Estimate

April 29th: Musselburgh
5f Maiden |
Finished in front of Jaassey on debut who he meets here.
Ran a respectable debut by trainer standards in a slow race on testing
ground. Beaten 6 lengths into second by a useful looking type in Overstayed.
Trainer has run two STO 2yos and the one that made the better debut improved
to win a moderate Beverley race. This one made a better debut and would
expect good improvement. Profile [70]

May 23rd: Carlisle
5f Maiden |
4/7f at Musselburgh and a big disappointment on GGF. Looked slightly short,
lengthy for his size and not quite fit enough. Lost a couple of lengths
on the pick-up and dropped to the back of the field. Driven overall through
the race and never look comfortable not go the pace. 5L and more behind
at halfway and no progress until plugged on a little late. Estimate

Stays at 5f but on a stiffer course. Profile [54]
