April 18th: Pontefract
5f Maiden Fillies' |
First season sire made 6f May debut at 2yo and superior 6-7f runner. Made
solid impression at the sales and yearlings sold well.
B2yoR rated 32 of his yearlings and they were a solid group if lacking
real stars.
Sire has had seven runners with places at best (as an aside his own record
showed he won less than he should have done given his ability).
Dam was a typical sprint 2yo winner for her sire. She won on debut in June
over the course and distance of this race.
Trainer targets 2yo racing. His very earliest debuts tend to include around
4 winners (some useful) out of 5. A longer SP (16/1+) would be a negative.
He does not target FTO wins and most debuts are well below final rating.
He has had three similar debut runs in 2005 which fit this pattern.
In summary a good pedigree in the context of the race and if she were trained
by someone who got their 2yos ready to rate highly on debut she would be
a good candidate to win on profile. Even with this trainer if she is competent
on debut she could make a place in a moderate race. Profile [52]

8/1 on debut in a poor to moderate race. In touch at halfway but lost ground
on the uphill climb to the straight and adrift after that. Estimate

6f Maiden |
66/1 at Carlisle. Lost 4L with a slow pick up and behind. Taken notably
wide on the turn into the straight and ran up the centre of the course.
Plugged on into the moderate types. Estimate [37]
A moderate run last time but could have rated higher with a more conventiional
run. Trainer has run two in the race in the last two years with none placing.
He runs two here with D Allan riding the other and F Lynch on this one.
Estimate [46 + 5 = 51]
