April 23rd: Haydock
5f Maiden Fillies' |
Made solid price at the Doncaster St Leger sales.
By second season sire that made an acceptable start with the 2004 2yos.
These included 5f winners out of stout dams for trainers that target 5f
runs. However he did not have any runners until May 2nd and no winner until
May 27 in 2004.
Sire has had two poor runners so far in 2005.
Dam was a debut 5f 2yo winner whose form tailed off. She has produced one
poor runner who sold much less well than this one.
Trainer targets 2yo racing. His very earliest debuts tend to include around
4 winners (some useful) out of 5. A longer SP (16/1+) would be a negative.
He does not target FTO wins and most debuts are well below final rating.
He has had five debut runs in 2005 which fit this pattern.
Trainer runs two in this race and both are on debut. This one might be
the second string on jockeys.
In summary a pedigree which could produce an average 5-6f 2yo winner. However
unlikely to be competitive on a debut for this trainer. Profile

May 13th: York
5f Fillies' Listed |
(G Gibbons) opened at 20/1 and remained there while the trainer's other
runner - Stanley Bay (T Durcan) - went from 20/1 to 25/1. The trainer also
ran two fillies in the Maiden race at Ripon on the same day and the stable
jockey was at that meeting. Tracked the solid pace well and was best placed
of the 'trackers' when the pacemakers stalled after trying to quicken the
pace at 2f out. Kept on well without showing a change of pace. She looked
bigger than Oceans Apart on TV pictures and with good reach in front.
A debut of this type for the trainer normally indicates a runner capable
of developing to 75+ rating. Worth noting that the dam was a FTO winner
who didn't progress. Also worth considering the sire's record with his
first 2yos in 2004 where the majority showed their best form within the
first two runs (including two debut winners) and did not show strong development
from early performances. Estimate [58]
A surprise winner on debut from Salut D'Amour who also runs here and might
have beaten her on debut with a clear run. A trainer debut win is rare
and usually the sign of an average+ 2yo and he doesn't tend to step them
up to Listed+ level without some prospect of being up to that level.

June 1st: Beverley
5f Listed Fillies' |
12/1 7th favourite of 9 at York on softer going. Broke ok but settled of
an average pace in 5th. 2L off the lead at halfway and slightly outpaced
as the sprint started 2F out. Slight fade to 6th. Estimate [67]
Trainer runs two and she has the worst draw in 1 of 14. Ridden by K Darley
and D Allan rides Lyndalee. Trainer has a good record in the race and has
won it twice in the last three seasons with high 80s rated fillies. She
has looked below that level and with her draw she would seem to need the
pacemakers to go to quick to have a chance of getting into the race late.
