May 2nd: Doncaster
5f Novice |
Made lowish price at Tattersalls part 2 sales.
Sire has at least an average record with 2yos but has a better record from
slightly later in the season at 6f+.
The dam has a sprint pedigree and related to 2yo winners abroad. She has
not produced a runner yet.
Trainer does not target strong debuts and has made a slow start to the
season. There were signs he was starting to run his better types with eight
debuts in the last 8 days and one 'accidental' debut win.
Three of his eleven debuts so far have placed.
It is interesting that he runs this filly in a Novice race on debut. In
2005 he ran 5 of his 52 2yos in this type of race on debut. One of those
was the later Listed winner Space Shuttle who was third in a tougher version
of this race. The other 4 were an odd mix with Listed winner Miss Meggy
winning on debut at 20/1 (with another non-winning filly 4th at 25/1);
solid winner Mimi Mouse was 6th at 16/1; poor runner Eborarry was last
of four at 7/1 in a poor race.
In summary an unexciting pedigree and sales price and not obviously best
at 5f. Trainer's debuts are normally uncompetitive with only the occasional
wins. The one question mark is over why she starts in a Novice race - is
she useful or a more mundane reason? Either way she's unlikely to beat
4 previous winners but one to check for the 'vibes' surrounding her.
