A couple of other points of interest with debuts. Richard Fahey
has a good set of 2yos this year and has had his usual set of FTO 5f winners
and 3, more unusual, 6f debut successes. He has his first 7f debut of the
season with Digger Derek at Catterick and he has a 0-13 record at
the distance between 2003-7.
-
Clive Cox didn't use to get FTO winners but as his string has included
more quality he has averaged between 10-14% debut winners in the last 4
years (the overall average is around 6%). In the last three years he has
had debut winners in mid to late June with better types who were primed
to win. This year he has had five debuts in May with moderate looking types
and the 'best' of these managed to place 2nd.
-
He had no debut runner in June this year and has his first newcomer since
that batch of May starters with Piazza San Pietro at Chepstow. At
€105,000 as a yearling he is an expensive purchase for the stable
and has a mixed sprint & 8f+ pedigree. He's drawn 1 in a big field
which isn't usually a good place to be with the stands' rail having a 'Magic
Carpet' strip in the last two furlongs. Going across to the far rails can
be the better move. On the other hand he's not in a strong race so might
be able to overcome the draw if he's good and well prepared. The Virtual
Paddock has pictures of 9 of the other runners and none are on any 'To
Follow' list.
-
Either way his performance will be interesting assuming this is the start
of the debuts for the better Cox juveniles. [Adam Kirby who often rides
the best Cox 2yos is on Walter Swinburn's Join Up and the main stable he
rides for.]
