Going GF previous day but some rain overnight. Horses making a print and kicking top layer divots off but jockeys reporting ground 'dead' & some say 'GS'. Race finishes suggest going more testing than GFG would suggest. Three horses went far side which was a visible disadvantage. Low quality race overall but a good winner. Quinlan's Diamond Affair talked up early in week and support on day. Each-way support for Safari Camp. DAffair too free TP and price drifted. This pair broke well and cut over to the stands' rail too quickly (Jockeys banned). Set a stiffish pace for conditions and both faded soon after halfway. Placed horses were in 3rd-5th through halfway. Nothing made ground from behind and pace set spread the field out. MrChev. pulled clea r & better class. Jk said he had been lazy at home and laid back and outstayed this field. He felt he wasn't just an early 5f type and would go 7f now. He gave 2008 2yo Souters Sister as an example of early 2yos that can surprise with development. As a debut winner for the trainer he should be up to competing in Listed races at least. 2nd & 3rd limited fillies from 'Fit Now' stables & no long term prospects. DAff. & SCamp may do better over an easier 5f but look early types. Papageno worth tracking. |
