2Tailwind in straight. Rain during the day and ground changed from GFG prior to meeting to Good during it. Moderate time even for Good Going and all seven runners finished in a bunch. First & second through halfway finished in the first two places. All the circumstantial evidence to suggest a Modest pace and a sprint in the straight with a tailwind behind to mean that making ground on leaders who had a comfortable time difficult. But, leading 5 for most of straight seemed to stall together late on to allow PS & Muwalla to close onto them. Extended effort(?) by front 5 caused by KD being forced up to challenge 2 wide 2.5f+ out on the bend to the straight. This caused SL & Avonrose Jks to respond & drag fornt 5 into 2.5f+ effort off slow pace rather than the usual 2F type. Kalam Daleel had a somewhat tough trip getting caught wide on the bend and never settling. Responded just 'OK' in straight and not look a battler in the last 1F & need to toughen up mentally. On close inspection the flinching followed by rolling back & behind Avonrose in the last 1.5F seemed a response to a minor flick with that jockey's whip followed by over-reacting when the jockey then raised it again. A slight excuse but KD seemed to be waiting for an 'excuse' to flinch anyway. |
