Moderate opposition to Excelebration on Profile unless newcomers include better debuts. Winner another to improve notably (after Roayh's win) STO after having no chance racing on the swamp in mid-track at Nottingham FTO. Bigger type and OR78+ and comfortable win here but lacking a real opponent for the day. ST an expensive runner for John Berry stable. Trainer only had one 2yo winner in recent years with a STO success off a lost debut. ST allowed a soft lead here but produce an ok effort 2F out to get to clear 2nd as winner pull away. Not see the 6f out and trainer does not have a record for winning with this type. Belgian Bill a 2yo breeze-up retainee running for a trainer who has got odd debut places and one win (with a better class filly in weak race). But overall record in his 3rd season suggests debuts not strong and peak STO. BB too green to respond to 2F out efforts and lose ground and hang right. Ok response once organised to get to 2nd in the last 0.5F but past stalled ST and well behind winner so moderate form. Should improve just for being more competent in later race. Midnight Rider the first runner of the year for Chris Wall so of some interest STO. Trainer typically gets 1-2 winners a year from around 12 runners. If he has some competitive & racy ones then they will be in the early batch. STO wins common and a Profit following his STO runners in 3 of the last 4 years. Mixed story with MR who has a relatively strong pedigree for the trainer. But, Medium sized at most. Green here and moved a bit scratchily when asked for his effort. But 3rd best initial response and kept at it to the line. Presume will be in a weak race STO and at his peak. Finnker too green to compete and for another peak STO trainer but not show little in final efforts. Il Battista another poor effort by a McCabe 2yo after he talked up his juvenile string in early season. Driven along throughout. Stable tends to be one that builds into form so not one to give up on yet. |
