Weak race on Profile with Looksmart an NR. But, run at a fast pace and a reasonable time. Claimer on Card run in 60.4s by OR69 horse carrying 2lbs more. 3yo Handicap won in 61.4s by OR60 with 3lbs more. 1st 2 home from the Kempton maiden on first day of season which has produced horses that have competed moderately in other races. Strong feeling that first 2 here managed to win opposed by moderate horses who were slower, green or non-stayers. Pick A Little small and ready but hard to think he is anything but an OR50s horse in the long term and lower OR60s as early 2yo. Well ridden to get to the rail and hold Mirror Lad off. Tried hard and held off a group in the short straight as he stalled and faded late. IAS too slow to get up with fron two and settled 2nd rank. Plug on in straight and stall late. A typical Stan Moore type showing placed form at a low level but struggling to win. Mirror Lad returning after fade in the Brocklesby as trainer restarts with 2yo runners. Effort early to try to get to rail but unable to clear PAL and held 1 wide of rail and hung a little on the tightest part of the bend. Fading from inside the final 1f. Perhaps just lack of ability plus a wide run. Bobby Smith forced to progress early and 3rd to ben but two wide of rail and also slightly hang left. Unable to hold placed running further than other in leading line and drop back. Unsurprisingly, faded after being forced into this sort of wide effort. LOT & RA both small and mentally inexperienced. Lost ground early but close enough to fast pace to stall in straight. BB probably 12 lengths back at Halfway and still last inside the final 0.5f (say 3-4 lengths off lead). Good possibility he was closing into a group of 6 who were walking home, as a set, after the pace. BB far enough back to miss pace so only closer. Probably the biggest so might be OK OR60s but very suspect form. Why put a horse too slow for 5f in the Notebook and performing to a low level. See how he develops though the season. Trainer has poor record with 2yos and winding up 5f speedsters in later season when claimed from other stables the one good area. This is not one of those and does not look 'Wind Up Speedster' material. |
