Odd race in the run from the stalls to the bend and probably indicative of how this type of Nursery race is different from the earlier maidens here. Ragged starts and the leaders forming up early with minimal effort typical in the maidens. An even break here other than Jehanbux a little slow. Line of 5 after 1f out from the rail as Noonenose, TTwo, LVS, ST & Intovert working to get over from widest draw. Other two just behind and jockeys took the decision to drop to the rail behind the line before the bend. This proved a good move with the Line-of-5 partly persisting around the bend to nearly halfway (when ST & LVS finally held back to drop-in). Those on the rail early able to make some ground and hold the later droppers wide. Mix of halfway positions at finish but Introvert very close to hanging on as another front running winner at the distance. Apart from the fading TTwo the one horse to really change (make) places was the winner. Both 2yo races at distance on day won by an Ahern ridden closer who stuck to the rail and inside running and getting past a prominent racer who finished the race off ok. Similar race shape to 2009 where the winner made it's run up the rail from 8th through halfway to beat the 2nd from halfway. |
